Audio8D v1.0.0 (verified release build)

Choose a tag to compare

Audio8D v1.0.0

Application version remains 1.0.0, and downloads remain free. This release retains the GUI startup/shutdown crash fix and adds a free open-source signing option. The downloads are still unsigned. The SmartScreen warning is unresolved; this is not a warning-removal release.

Changes

  • Added optional SignPath Foundation signing for projects accepted into its free open-source program, preserving the existing Azure option.
  • Signing requests include only Audio8D.exe and audio8d-cli.exe. Returned ZIPs must preserve the original executable content, then pass trusted Windows signature, publisher and timestamp checks before a signed release can be published.
  • Signing failure blocks publication when enabled. The actual packaged GUI is checked after signing as well as during ordinary packaging.
  • Retained the fix for closing while Style/Customize dialogs are constructed, deferred callbacks after shutdown, and recursive error dialogs after Tk has been destroyed. The normal warm-up and both reproduced shutdown races are exercised against the frozen Windows executable in CI.
  • Documented the proposed code signing policy and outstanding enrollment. No SignPath application has been submitted or approved.

Download and run

Download the platform ZIP and SHA256SUMS.txt, verify its hash, and extract the entire archive into a writable folder. Keep all companion files together.

Platform Package Launch
Windows x86_64 Audio8D-1.0.0-windows-x86_64.zip Audio8D/Audio8D.exe
Linux x86_64 Audio8D-1.0.0-linux-x86_64.zip Audio8D/Audio8D

Python, FFmpeg and FFprobe are bundled; a separate Python installation is not required. Linux needs a compatible graphical/audio environment. No macOS package is supplied. GitHub source archives are not runnable application packages.

The packages are exact copies from successful native build 41177978388, source commit 1f4ba28. Publication requires both platform suites, native package/CLI checks and the Windows frozen GUI lifecycle gate to pass. Old tags and packages remain available; the build tag changes while the application version stays 1.0.0.

Remaining limitations

No publicly trusted signing identity is configured. Free Foundation signing needs provider acceptance and human release approval. A trusted signature still cannot guarantee zero SmartScreen warnings. The release does not disable or change Windows protections. Bundled third-party binaries and the Linux package are not signed by this project.

The reproduced GUI race is covered by regression checks; that does not guarantee every machine is free of all possible errors. Clean-machine compatibility, physical playback quality and accessibility remain manual acceptance checks. Extract into a new folder and keep the previous complete folder for rollback.

Audio8D is MIT-licensed. Bundled FFmpeg is GPLv3 and other components keep their own licenses. Preserve THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md, licenses/ and the supplied corresponding-source information when redistributing.

Audio8D v1.0.0 — GUI startup and shutdown fix

This build fixes the reproduced application has been destroyed dialog failure. Application version remains 1.0.0. The unique build tag distinguishes this corrected package from the earlier release; the original v1.0.0 download is preserved for rollback.

These downloads remain unsigned because no trusted signing identity is configured. Windows may still show an Unknown publisher / SmartScreen warning. This release adds signing integration and verification safeguards; it does not establish publisher trust by itself.

What changed

  • Deferred GUI work stops when shutdown starts, including work interrupted during CustomTkinter's nested window updates.
  • Style/Customize preparation cannot reenter itself or continue after its parent closes.
  • Callback error reporting no longer opens another dialog in a destroyed Tk application or recursively fails while displaying an error.
  • Shutdown cleanup always attempts final window destruction, including when resource cleanup fails.
  • New regression tests exercise real startup with background dialog preparation enabled. The release pipeline also extracts and runs the actual PyInstaller-built Windows Audio8D.exe to check normal warm-up and closing during both Style and Customize construction.

The baseline failure was reproduced using the same pinned GUI dependencies and matched the reported bind → error handler → destroyed toplevel exception chain. The corrected local source and packaged Windows executable completed those cases without error popups or escaping callback exceptions.

Download and run

Download the ZIP for your platform and SHA256SUMS.txt from this release. Check the ZIP's SHA-256, extract the entire archive into a writable folder and keep all companion files together.

Platform Package Launch from the extracted Audio8D folder
Windows x86_64 Audio8D-1.0.0-windows-x86_64.zip Audio8D.exe or audio8d-cli.exe
Linux x86_64 Audio8D-1.0.0-linux-x86_64.zip ./Audio8D or ./audio8d-cli

Python, FFmpeg and FFprobe are bundled. Ordinary conversion does not require a separate Python installation. Linux desktop use requires a compatible graphical/audio environment. macOS is not built. GitHub's source-code archives are not runnable application packages.

Build provenance

The ZIPs and checksum file are unchanged copies from automated main build 41176281743, built from source commit dbc19523afd438bdc4178b4596bbd7f2bf4dddff. The crash fix is included in parent commit d0f5b7b.

Required CI evidence includes native Windows/Linux packages, extracted CLI/system/generated-tone checks, both converter/GUI suites, lifecycle/signing/publication regressions and the Windows frozen-GUI lifecycle gate. These packages were not rebuilt or modified when copied to this versioned release.

Trusted signing and remaining acceptance

An optional main-only OIDC signing job can sign and timestamp Audio8D.exe and audio8d-cli.exe after an eligible public-trust identity is configured. It requires trusted Windows signature validation, the configured publisher, timestamps, unchanged PyInstaller content and successful GUI checks after signing. Enabled signing failure blocks publication without an unsigned fallback. Linux and bundled third-party programs remain unsigned by this project. No certificate, Azure account or Windows security-policy change is supplied by this release.

Signing does not guarantee immediate SmartScreen reputation. Live trusted signing has not been tested because the required identity is unavailable. See the signing setup guide.

Clean-machine compatibility, physical playback quality and accessibility/desktop acceptance remain manual checks. The Latest label identifies the current downloadable build, not completion of those checks. Keep previous complete application folders and back up any settings you want to retain before updating.

Audio8D retains the MIT license. Bundled FFmpeg is GPLv3 and bundled components retain their own licenses. Preserve THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md, licenses/ and the supplied corresponding-source information when redistributing.

Audio8D v1.0.0

Audio8D is a desktop application and command-line tool that uses FFmpeg to create moving stereo audio for headphone listening. Choose music, select a sound style, preview and convert individual songs or batches. The application version remains 1.0.0.

Download and run

Download the application ZIP for your platform and SHA256SUMS.txt from this release. Compare the ZIP's SHA-256 with its checksum entry, then extract the entire archive and keep all companion files together.

Platform Application ZIP Launch from the extracted Audio8D folder
Windows x86_64 Audio8D-1.0.0-windows-x86_64.zip Audio8D.exe (desktop) or audio8d-cli.exe (terminal)
Linux x86_64 Audio8D-1.0.0-linux-x86_64.zip ./Audio8D (desktop) or ./audio8d-cli (terminal)

Python, FFmpeg and FFprobe are bundled. A separate Python installation is unnecessary for ordinary conversion. The Linux desktop requires a compatible graphical session and audio environment. macOS is not part of this release. The optional singer-separation add-on is not required for ordinary conversion and has its own installation requirements.

GitHub's source-code ZIP and tarball are source archives, not the runnable application downloads.

Source and verification

These are the exact application packages from the automated main build, built from commit e27915bccf0d86e217c19fc6d3748995b00e2b7b. They have not been rebuilt or changed for this versioned release.

Build and test evidence includes native Windows/Linux builds, extracted CLI version/system checks, a generated-tone conversion without Python on PATH, repository/publication checks and each platform's converter/GUI suite. The test fixes make playback-device, filename, path and window-manager assumptions explicit. Player protocol tests use a deterministic backend; real local Windows playback was also checked separately. Hosted runners do not establish physical playback quality or every desktop environment.

Signing, acceptance and licenses

Both packages are unsigned. This release does not add a trusted Windows publisher signature, Linux publisher signature or macOS notarization. Windows may display an Unknown publisher / SmartScreen warning. A Latest badge and ZIP checksums do not establish publisher trust.

Clean-machine installation/startup, physical playback, perceived audio quality and accessibility/desktop acceptance remain manual checks. This release's Latest designation makes the application download visible in the repository sidebar; it is not a certification that those checks have been completed. Use a comfortable listening volume and keep the previous complete package when updating.

Audio8D retains its MIT license. Bundled FFmpeg is GPLv3; bundled libraries retain their own licenses. Preserve THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md, licenses/ and the corresponding-source information supplied in each package when redistributing.
