Feature Description
Show the actual version number and build date for an available image update instead of just raw image digests — e.g.
2.3.6 → 2.3.7instead ofsha256:8978d2f5 → sha256:3eb277ac.Problem It Solves
I run several containers on rolling tags (
:latest,:9-alpine, etc.). When Arcane tells me a new image is available, all I see is a digest change. That tells me that something changed, but not what — I can't judge whether it's a small patch or a bigger jump without pulling the image and digging through its metadata myself first.Proposed Solution
When Arcane detects an available update, it could also read the version info that's usually already stored in the image itself (the standard OCI version label and build date) and show that instead of — or alongside — the digest. So instead of two digest hashes, I'd see something like
2.3.6 → 2.3.7with a build date next to it. For images that don't carry that label, falling back to today's digest display would be totally fine.Alternatives Considered
I recently noticed What's Up Docker (WUD) just added exactly this — it resolves the version label and build date for digest-based updates instead of only showing digest hashes.
As I want to switch from a combination of Dockge and WUD (and Tugtainer) to Arcane it would be great to have this feature here.
