Choose the microphone for dictation and voice mode
#8684
When Bluetooth headphones like AirPods connect, macOS makes them the default input device (Apple Stack Exchange has a long-standing question about this). Paseo's desktop app records dictation and voice mode from the default input, so with headphones on, it records through the headphones' microphone instead of the one I want to use. As that question notes, using Bluetooth headphones as an input also lowers the quality of their playback.
Within macOS, the way around it is to change the input in System Settings > Sound, which changes it for every other app, too.
What I'd like is a microphone picker that lists the audioinput devices from enumerateDevices(), remembers the choice, and passes it as deviceId in those audio constraints. If the chosen microphone isn't connected, Paseo would use the system default, as it does now. Since the microphone belongs to the computer running the app rather than to the host, an app setting seems like a better fit than the host's Voice section.
In the meantime, I made a small plugin that does this by wrapping getUserMedia: https://github.com/mattt/paseo-microphone. It works for me, but it seems like something Paseo should handle itself.

Both capture paths call
getUserMediawithout adeviceId(use-dictation-audio-source.web.tsandaudio-engine.web.ts), and the Microphone row in Settings > Permissions shows only whether access is granted. What I'd like is a microphone picker that lists the
