gevent does not install un OS X due to "gevent/libevent.h:9:10: fatal error: 'event.h' file not found"

It seems that installation of gevent under OS X fails with:
gevent/libevent.h:9:10: fatal error: 'event.h' file not found

Command used to install pip installl --user gevent

I solved my problem locally but that only a workaround, by default this should be done from inside the setup.py, it is quite easy, probably 3-4 lines of code could solve the problem. Or even better, if only the header file is needed, you could include it in the library.

The 1.0 branch already includes all the necessary dependencies. The 0.x requires pre-installing libevent - it's not going to get fixed.

This is failing out in the same way with libevent installed via brew install libevent on OSX mavericks. Is there another step we're missing here?

Ok. Found a solution.
brew install libevent
export LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/lib/
export CFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include/
pip install --user gevent

It would seem brew, or at least the libevent formula, isn't diligent about putting libraries in standard places.
