CadCove 0.2.57: Unified CAD and physics canvas

CAD preview, field presentation, mechanism motion and physics now share a canvas. Physics builds in the background and resets stopped when changed definitions activate, preserving the camera and selection.

  • Shared subsystem definitions for imported STEP and CadQuery assemblies, including stationary hardware, joints and dependencies.
  • GPU deformation and particle-stream playback for approximate foam-ball simulations.
  • Authoritative shared-match infrastructure and native contact/transmission improvements.
  • Physical material/property contracts and updated agent guidance.
  • Rapier mate backend replaces the old Ondsel integration.

Packages are the exact artifacts qualified by the release CI run. Linux and both Mac architectures include installed-editor checks. Hosted Windows validation covers native physics, CLI and packaging; Windows GPU/device qualification remains separate. Foam/contact parameters need hardware calibration. These checks do not establish multiplayer real-time performance on every machine.

CadCove-FRC 0.2.0

CAD, robot code and physics simulation together in VS Code/WPILib, with an AI-agent-friendly workflow and Team 3310's Amarillo robot as the main example.

Install

Download the VSIX matching your platform and use Extensions: Install from VSIX:

Install Bun 1.4.2 and Python 3.12 with the pinned CadQuery dependencies separately. Robot simulation also needs WPILib 2026 and the team's desktop vendor libraries. Rust is only needed to build from source.

What's included

  • Editable Python/CadQuery CAD, native OCCT geometry, STEP imports and interactive WebGPU viewing.
  • Build, inspect, capture and export tools for Codex, Claude, Copilot and other coding agents.
  • Native Rust/Rapier gameplay and detailed simulation modes with Java/WPILib/Phoenix integration.
  • Windows process cleanup, file-lock handling and isolated WPILib editor fixes.
  • One shared source tree for all platforms and simpler user documentation.

The VSIX contains the tools and a small training fixture. The source includes the full Team 3310 Amarillo CAD, robot code and simulation bindings. Example setup downloads the REBUILT field from FIRST and builds the robot locally.

Platform checks

All platform downloads are built from the same release source. Attached reports identify each package's source, checks and SHA-256. macOS/Linux CI includes installed-editor checks with software graphics. The exact Apple Silicon download also passed local WPILib 2026.2.1 CAD, robot teleop, capture and shutdown checks on hardware graphics. Windows CI covers native builds, CLI and packaging; separate Windows 11/Intel graphics reports cover stock VS Code, WPILib, CAD and robot simulation on the merged Windows runtime source. These scopes are recorded separately rather than treating hosted Windows CI as a GPU test.

Windows 10 has not been tested. Physical-controller acceptance and robot calibration remain team responsibilities. See the system card for known geometry and simulation limits.

License and feedback

Original CadCove code is MIT. Dependencies, team assets and FIRST content retain their own terms. Please report setup problems and reproducible bugs through GitHub Issues.

CadCove-FRC 0.2.0-rc.1 — Native CadQuery preview

CadCove-FRC 0.2.0-rc.1 — native CadQuery preview

Agent-assisted CAD, robot code and native simulation in one local VS Code / WPILib workspace.

Install

Download the VSIX matching your platform below and use Extensions: Install from VSIX. Remove the old cadcove-dev development extension first to avoid duplicate commands.

Prerequisites: Bun 1.4.2 installed separately; Python 3.12 with the pinned CadQuery requirements; and WPILib/JDK/vendor libraries for running the robot program. Rust is not needed to use a prebuilt VSIX. The CLI launcher finds Bun through CADCOVE_BUN, its standard user installation, or PATH. No interpreter is downloaded silently.

What changed

  • Native Python/CadQuery/OCCT replaces brepjs and the browser CAD kernel. The interactive canvas remains WebGPU.
  • All 109 authored Team 3310 part designs are CadQuery, alongside 320 retained vendor/unclassified STEP prototypes and 1,958 placed parts.
  • Agents use files and a structured build/inspect/capture/export CLI; MCP supports editor integration. Shared setup guidance covers Codex, Claude and Copilot.
  • Native Rust/Rapier simulation supports separate gameplay and more detailed profiles, with real Java/WPILib/Phoenix integration.
  • Cache-reopening verification now checks the accepted revision, visible geometry and no Python startup, independently of watcher event timing.
  • The CLI ships as JavaScript plus a small Rust launcher. Bun itself is not redistributed. This removes the embedded-runtime distribution gate for these packages; the optional standalone developer build retains its separate review gate.

Included and downloaded separately

The generic VSIX contains the tools and small training fixture. The complete Team 3310 example CAD/code is in the release source. Explicit setup downloads the pinned FIRST field and obtains vendor libraries through Gradle. FIRST geometry/manuals and vendor SDK binaries are not inside these public VSIX files. See the example guide to play the team robot.

Qualification and limits

Source commit: 71c6096ac1f9bdfe37c7f30319f273bce2fbbdf9. Passing macOS/Linux CI.

The attached reports and SHA-256 manifest identify the exact tested packages and source commit. macOS arm64 and Linux x64 CI build from a clean exported source tree, run portable/native tests, test the relocated package, and install the VSIX into VS Code 1.105.1. CI graphics use SwiftShader and do not establish hardware GPU performance. The exact macOS download also passed a local installed-editor check with WPILib 2026.2.1, actual Java/Phoenix execution, native CAD editing/cache/capture, runtime repair, simulation viewing and clean shutdown; that report is attached separately.

Windows is not tested or advertised as supported by this candidate yet. The maintainer checklist is in docs/WINDOWS-CHECK.md. The updated native-CadQuery launch film is now attached below, with video provenance and a separate SHA-256 manifest. This is a GitHub prerelease, not the final launch announcement or a Marketplace listing.

Simulation calibration, mechanism mappings and real robot testing remain necessary. Known STEP exchange/import validity limitations are documented in the system card. Detailed simulation is not an engineering certification or a guaranteed real-time mode.

Licensing and feedback

Original CadCove code is MIT. Dependency notices accompany each platform package; team/season assets retain their own terms. Bun and Python/CadQuery are installed separately. Use GitHub Issues for setup/reproduction reports and the enabled private vulnerability-reporting channel for security issues. Keep credentials and private robot data out of reports.

Launch film

Watch the 60-second native CadQuery launch video · 720p / 30 fps · 11.6 MB.

Actual VS Code CAD and AI-assisted Java editing, followed by the approved corrected action montage. Uses the original synthesized score. The staged design brief, independent code/gameplay takes and editorial retiming are documented in video-provenance.json. Video checksums are in VIDEO-SHA256SUMS.txt; original package qualification assets remain unchanged.
