Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.9
The game now runs on PPSSPP with the hardware renderer.
Fixed
- PPSSPP, hardware renderer: the special stages' track, the title screen background and the special stages' item box cages (and speed lines) were missing unless you switched to the software renderer (#3). They now show up with PPSSPP's default settings, at full speed, without the lines across the floor.
Nothing changes on a real PSP: the new drawing path only turns on inside an emulator. The special stages were measured on a PSP-3000 with the same replays before and after, and run exactly as in v1.0.8.
Known issues
- UFO6 still drops below 60 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.
How to install
This is only the game's program (EBOOT.PBP): it does not include the game. You also need a Data.psp, made from your own copy of Sonic Mania Plus (Steam, version 1.06).
The easy way: open the Google Colab notebook, upload your Data.rsdk and download SonicManiaPSP.zip. It already uses this version. If you already have a Data.psp, you only need to replace EBOOT.PBP in PSP/GAME/SonicMania/.
On PPSSPP, put the same SonicMania folder in memstick/PSP/GAME/ and keep the default settings (PSP model PSP-2000/3000).
Built without the Plus content (Encore Mode, Mighty and Ray), as the RSDKv5 license requires of pre-built executables. Needs a PSP with 64MB of RAM and CFW (PSP-2000, PSP-3000, PSP Go or PSP Street). If the game does not boot, turn on the extra memory option of your CFW (+16MB in ARK).
Sonic Mania belongs to SEGA. This port is built on the Sonic Mania and RSDKv5 decompilations by RSDKModding.
Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.8
Fixes the rare freeze when the music changes (most often as the intro video starts).
Fixed
- Rare freeze on a music change: the PSP's music decoder (the Media Engine) sometimes stops answering, and a music change used to wait for it forever (the intro video, the end of an act...). The music is now handled entirely by its own thread: if the decoder ever stops answering, only the music goes quiet and the game goes on.
- Music changes no longer stutter: a new track used to hold the game for about 40 ms while it opened; it now opens in the background.
Freeze report
If the game ever freezes for 10 seconds, it writes a small freeze.txt next to EBOOT.PBP (PSP/GAME/SonicMania/). If that happens to you, please attach it to a new issue.
Known issues
- UFO6 still drops below 60 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.7
Fixes the Studiopolis Act 1 freeze. Thanks to YovaY0shi22 and lunalinguaruda-oss for the reports and the freeze reports (#5, #6)!
Fixed
- Studiopolis Act 1: the game no longer freezes halfway through the act (the music kept playing). The LED signs could lose their animation text in memory and then loop forever. The freeze reports from v1.0.6 pointed straight at it.
- The same fix applies to the other objects that keep text in a stage: their text no longer gets lost on PSP.
- On rare occasions the PSP freezes as the intro video starts (restart the game).

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.6
Makes a rare freeze harmless, and adds a freeze report to help track down the ones left.
Fixed
- Music decoder: on rare occasions the PSP's music decoder (the Media Engine) stops answering. The whole game used to freeze with it; now only the music stops, and the game goes on. This may be the freeze some players hit in Studiopolis Act 1 (#5).
New
- Freeze report: if the game ever freezes for 10 seconds, it writes a small
freeze.txtfile next toEBOOT.PBP(PSP/GAME/SonicMania/). If that happens to you, please attach it to a new issue. It costs nothing while you play.
Known issues
- UFO6 still drops below 60 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.
- On rare occasions the PSP freezes as the intro video starts (restart the game).

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.5
Fixes invisible spikes after a special stage. Thanks to EdwinSSJ for reporting it (#4)!
Fixed
- Back from a special stage: spikes (and possibly other objects) no longer turn invisible in the stage you return to. The memory the special stage used for its floor was released too late, so heavy stages like Metallic Madness loaded short of memory. It happened in v1.0.0 and in v1.0.2 to v1.0.4.
Known issues
- UFO6 still drops below 60 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.
- On rare occasions the PSP freezes as the intro video starts (restart the game).

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.4
Fixes a freeze on the title screen. Thanks to EdwinSSJ for reporting it (#2)!
Fixed
- Title screen: the game no longer freezes when "Press any button" appears after you change the language to French, Italian, German or Spanish and restart the game. Leftover debugging code read the title's text in a way the PSP doesn't allow.
Known issues
- UFO6 still drops below 60 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.
- On rare occasions the PSP freezes as the intro video starts (restart the game).

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.3
Fixes the water in Green Hill Zone. Thanks to the player who sent a photo of it!
Fixed
- Green Hill Zone Act 2: the water pools are blue again instead of black. Effects that darken the screen by subtracting a colour (the pools, among others) took away the wrong colour, so they came out much too dark. This was in every version so far.
- The same fix applies to the other sprites drawn that way, such as Press Garden's ink and ice, and Mirage Saloon's light bulbs and seltzer bottles.
Known issues
- UFO6 still drops below 60 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.
- On rare occasions the PSP freezes as the intro video starts (restart the game).

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.2
Fixes the flickering in the last special stage (UFO7). Thanks to everyone who reported it!
Fixed
- Special stage 7 (the last emerald): the track, the cubes and the planet no longer vanish every few frames. The cause was the plasma effect on the track: on busy frames it lost its mask partway down the screen and covered everything below. It was there in v1.0.0 and v1.0.1, so if you gave up on the last emerald, it's worth another try.
- Special stages: the floor optimization removed in v1.0.1 is back, now that its real problem is fixed. It mostly helps UFO6.
Known issues
- UFO6 still drops below 60 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.
- On rare occasions the PSP freezes as the intro video starts (restart the game).

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.1
Bug fixes for Flying Battery and Stardust Speedway. Thanks to everyone who reported them!
Fixed
- Stardust Speedway Act 2: Metal Sonic no longer disappears during the boss fight. He used to get stuck off screen after his ball attack, which soft-locked the fight. The cause also made the game think off-screen objects were still visible, so other objects that are meant to vanish once they leave the screen now behave correctly too.
- Flying Battery Act 1 and 2: the game no longer slows down when the magnetic fields switch on, and it no longer stays slow afterwards.
- Flying Battery Act 1: the inner background (the wavy one) is drawn much faster, so the boss fight now runs at 60 fps.
- Special stages: removed the special stage floor optimization from v1.0.0. It made the floor vanish every few frames in some stages (UFO7, the last emerald).
Known issues
- Some players still see flickering in the last special stage (UFO7). Still being investigated.
- UFO6 drops to ~40-50 fps where the horizon is high on the screen.
- On rare occasions the PSP freezes as the intro video starts (restart the game).

Sonic Mania PSP v1.0.0
First release of the Sonic Mania PSP port.
This is only the game's program (EBOOT.PBP): it does not include the game. You also need a Data.psp, made
from your own copy of Sonic Mania Plus (Steam, version 1.06).
How to install
The easy way: open the Google Colab notebook,
upload your Data.rsdk and download SonicManiaPSP.zip. It already contains this EBOOT and your Data.psp. Extract
it to the root of your Memory Stick.
To do it yourself: create PSP/GAME/SonicMania/ on the Memory Stick, put this EBOOT.PBP in it, and add the
Data.psp made with tools/build_psp_data.py (see the README).
Notes
- Built without the Plus content (Encore Mode, Mighty and Ray), as the RSDKv5 license requires of pre-built
executables. If you own the Plus DLC, build the EBOOT yourself from the source code. - Needs a PSP with 64MB of RAM and CFW (PSP-2000, PSP-3000 or PSP Go). Tested on a PSP-3000.
- Includes Portuguese as a language and an achievements page in the main menu.
- Known issues: UFO6 drops to ~40-50 fps where the horizon is high on the screen, and on rare occasions the PSP freezes
as the intro video starts (restart the game).
Sonic Mania belongs to SEGA. This port is built on the Sonic Mania
and RSDKv5 decompilations by RSDKModding.
