v0.1.0
Z3ST v0.1.0
This is the first public release of Z3ST, a FEniCSx-based framework for thermo-mechanical analysis of multi-material domains.
Overview
Z3ST v0.1.0 provides a complete initial implementation of a coupled thermo-mechanical solver with YAML-driven configuration, automatic mesh handling, and support for coupling.
This release defines the core architecture on which future physics modules and advanced capabilities will be built.
Key features
Framework and configuration
- YAML input for models, solvers, geometry, materials, and BCs.
- Automatic loading of Gmsh meshes (
.msh) with cell and facet tags. - Unified
Spineclass combining configuration, mesh, FE setup, solvers, and physical models.
Solvers
- Staggered thermo-mechanical coupling with relaxation and optional adaptive relaxation.
- Monolithic mixed solver using a combined displacement–temperature function space.
- Linear and non-linear mechanical and thermal solvers.
Materials and constitutive models
- Automatic computation of Lamé parameters.
- Support for:
- isotropic elasticity (Lamé form)
- Voigt elasticity (user-defined 6×6 stiffness matrix)
- plane stress and 3D regimes
- Temperature-dependent thermal conductivity via symbolic UFL functions.
- Thermal stress and elastic strain energy density.
Gap model
- Fixed gap conductance.
- Gas gap conductance based on average interface temperature and gap width estimation.
Boundary conditions
- Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin (gap) BCs for thermal and mechanical fields.
- Clamp and slip supports for mechanical constraints.
- Per-material BC assignment with consistency checks.
Time driver
- Quasi-stationary time loop.
- LHR interpolation based on user-provided time–power history.
Diagnostics
- Matrix assembly analysis:
- sparsity
- symmetry
- condition number (dense or iterative)
- Mechanical constraint check for under- and over-constrained systems.
- Visualization of fixed DOFs in PyVista.
Output
- VTU export of temperature, displacement, stress, and other result fields.
Notes
This release provides the structural backbone of Z3ST. Upcoming versions will extend the framework (e.g., phase-field fracture, multilayer materials, temperature-dependent mechanical properties, reduced-order models, and verification cases).
