community: Replace gmane archive link with a mail-archive one. #827
Conversation
Thanks, there has been a lot of discussion about gmane upstream, but I forgot about the links here. The pattern on the mailing list seems to be to point people at https://public-inbox.org/git, rather than |
The link to gname in the community page[1] seems to be broken: http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git Gmane itself seems to be down, I don't know if temporarily or not, so after a quick search I found another archive in mail-archive.com[2], and thought that I could be worth to replace them. Sorry for the delay in updating this, just changed the link to public-inbox :) I haven't found anything obvious about posting through there, so I've just removed that part. |
Thanks. So it actually looks like Gmane's nntp-posting is still up, but the web archives are down. As weird as it is, the best thing for now may be to point to public-inbox.org for the archive, but keep the mention of gmane for nntp posting. Do you mind going that route? Also, since you are amending force-pushing, you may want to update the commit message (which still mentions mail-archive). |
Hopefully Gmane will be back soon, now that it got a new maintainer... though it looks like the code for web site must be rewritten from scratch. Anyone knows if any other web archive or other web site allows posting to git mailing list? @peff, public-inbox.org also allow nntp posting. |
@jnareb Neat. If you have a link to instructions for posting via public-inbox, it might be nice to include. Even if gmane is back up for good, it cannot hurt to give multiple options. |

Gmane is still broken ... Any news on this? |
@jhasse Hmm, gmane was down and then back up for a while. And now it seems to be up, but the git mailing list isn't carried? Weird. I was stalling on this to see if there was an nntp-posting solution that would come up. But let's merge this in the meantime, since pointing people to gmane isn't helping anyone. If people have suggestions for a better NNTP interface, they can open a new PR. |
