Notes Tech 3 is a native Kotlin rewrite of the app. It installs over 2.0.x and keeps your notes, folders and vaults. Read the first section before updating.

⚠️ Before you update

  • This update is one-way. Once 3.0.0 is installed, Android refuses to put 2.x back over it, and uninstalling erases your notes: the key that protects the database lives in the phone's Keystore and goes with the app. If you want a copy first, use the ZIP Markdown export of 2.x: notes in a locked vault are left out of it, and notes in an unlocked vault go into it in plain text.
  • Installed from F-Droid? Wait for F-Droid. F-Droid signs Notes Tech with its own key, so these APKs cannot update an F-Droid install. Switching would mean uninstalling, which erases your notes. 3.0.0 will reach F-Droid through a new recipe.
  • Installed from GitHub? Any APK below updates your 2.0.x in place.

What's new

  • Rewritten in Kotlin: same notes and vaults, an app of about 8 MB per architecture (the dictation model is still imported by hand, 57 MB, its SHA-256 checked at import).
  • App lock: a PIN when Notes Tech opens, plus fingerprint or face unlock if you wish. It adds USE_BIOMETRIC and USE_FINGERPRINT; still no network permission.
  • German, Italian and Spanish, besides English and French.
  • Security audit fixes:
    • closing a vault clears the note that was open; deleted text also leaves the search index;
    • copying from a vault note goes through the protected clipboard, and the keyboard is asked not to learn;
    • no more text actions from other apps in the selection menu, and no emoji font requested from Google services;
    • an interrupted panic wipe completes at the next launch;
    • plain files left in the cache by 2.x are deleted at first launch.
  • A PIN vault whose key Android deleted (removing the screen lock, Android 12 and later) now says so, instead of "Vault locked." at every attempt; choosing the PIN mode warns about it beforehand.
  • Before Android 9, no new PIN vault: existing PIN vaults still open and state their limit. This is the one change that removes a possibility.
  • Terms of use and privacy policy updated (version 1.2.0, in the app).

Which APK should I download?

  • notes-tech-universel-3.0.0.apk: works on every phone. If in doubt, pick this one.
  • notes-tech-arm64-v8a-3.0.0.apk: almost every phone since 2016, smaller.
  • notes-tech-armeabi-v7a-3.0.0.apk: older 32-bit phones.
  • notes-tech-x86_64-3.0.0.apk: emulators.
