Agentbits v0.12.0

You can now cancel a task, a few passing provider failures are handled without you, and a file an agent removed no longer shows up as if it were still there.

Added

• Cancel a task. "Cancel task" on the task page first shows what it covers (the run that stops, the approval that is turned down, a race attempt cancelled with it, tasks that will wait), then cancels. Nothing is undone and the task keeps its history; nothing picks it up again until you reopen it. Cancelled tasks have their own view on the board.
• Limited automatic recovery (Settings → General → "Automatic recovery", on by default). After a passing provider failure (network, timeout, overload):
  • a lead review on an API provider (Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible) or Demo is tried again later;
  • a worker run on an API provider or Demo is run again only when its record shows it changed nothing outside Agentbits: at most Agentbits' own reads, no file saved, no connection or app call.
  • At most two extra tries per task in all (reviews and runs share them), 1 and 5 minutes apart, within 30 minutes. The setting, the provider and the task's inputs are checked again right before every call; an agent that needs approval asks again. Meanwhile the task shows "Recovering", why, and a cancel button.
  • Claude Code and Codex are not retried on their own, neither their runs nor their reviews. Agentbits cannot tell from their record that a run changed nothing, and a CLI review has no per-call limits. You still decide those, as before.

Fixed

• Removed or moved project-folder files. A file a Claude Code / Codex agent deleted or moved used to stay listed "in the project folder" with its old text, so the lead could send a "remove these files" task back again and again. Every read now checks the file on disk: the review and the worker's prompt, files_list / file_read / file_search, the Files search and opening a file's preview.
  • A file not found says so, and its old text is no longer used; its record and history stay.
  • A folder that can't be reached or a permission error is not counted as removed: nothing is marked, and no stored text is shown until it can be checked.
  • A file that is back at the same path is read in again.
  • The review says a file was present when a run started and gone when it ended, and that it is not known who removed it, since the folder is shared. A removal is never put on the agent.
  • A moved file is recorded at its new path (as a new file).

Changed

• Database schema v24 (two additions: the cancel mark on tasks, and the "not found on disk" mark on project-folder files). A copy of your database is saved in the backups folder before the upgrade.

Known limitations

• These changes were tested with automated tests (real SQLite, Demo provider and a stubbed Claude Code). They were not tried with a real Claude Code or Codex agent, or by hand in the Windows app.
• Whether moving a file on Windows (NTFS) updates the time Agentbits uses to see the new path has not been checked on a real Windows setup.
• A review is not limited in time for Claude Code / Codex.

Windows is the main target. The macOS packages open on a real Mac, but not every feature has been tried there yet. They are not signed by Apple: on first launch go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (how).

• Node.js is not needed to run the app. Claude Code CLI and Codex CLI are not bundled: install and sign in separately (claude auth login, codex login).
• The installers are not code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen will warn you: More info → Run anyway.
• Upgrading: close Agentbits and run the new installer over the old one; your data in %APPDATA%\Agentbits is kept. The database is upgraded on first launch (a copy is saved in the backups folder first), so make a backup first if you might go back to an older version (Settings → Data management). An older version cannot open the upgraded database.

Verify the download

SHA-256 checksums are in SHA256SUMS-windows.txt and SHA256SUMS-macos.txt. A checksum only shows the file was not corrupted; it is not a signature.
