Viraam 0.1.1

@golgames1 golgames1 released this 02 Oct 18:09

Housekeeping release, no functional changes.

Removes Google's encrypted dependency-info blob from the signed APK. That block is a binary list of the app's dependencies, encrypted with Google's key, so nobody except Google can read or verify what it contains. IzzyOnDroid's APK scanner flags it and F-Droid asks for the same, so it is now switched off for all builds.

Same signing key as 0.1.0 (SHA-256 264e67cc3b1187825447a237993b71d84914442c6a8d12a72559a8eee3509de4), so it installs straight over the previous version.

First release. Early, and built by one person on one phone, so expect rough edges elsewhere — please tell me what breaks.

What it does. When scrolling runs on autopilot, Viraam waits for the gap between two reels, quietly mutes the sound, and fills the screen with one line worth reading. It fades by itself a few seconds later. Nothing to tap, nothing to dismiss. Press and hold to keep a line.

In this version

  • Seven looks, each with its own quiet sound: Ink, Breath, Frost, Ripple, Candle, Drift, Stars
  • Timing follows your scrolling rather than a clock, with a tipping point that moves a little each time
  • Holds off during calls, typing, a sideways or locked phone; quiet hours, a daily limit, a 20-minute gap, and Pause for 2 hours / for today
  • 100 lines to start with, mostly English, with Hindi, Sanskrit, Bengali, Punjabi and Tamil available if you want them
  • Add your own lines; keep the ones you like; back them up to a file
  • No internet permission at all, no accounts, no analytics, no third-party code

Installing

Easiest is Obtainium: add this repository's URL and it installs and updates the app for you.

Downloading Viraam-0.1.0.apk here works too, but Android may say "App blocked to protect your device". That is Play Protect refusing apps that use the accessibility permission when they arrive through a browser; it is not specific to this app. Either use Obtainium, or open Play Store → your picture → Play Protect → gear icon → turn off scanning for a minute while you install.

Then open Viraam, go through the three setup screens, and switch it on where Android asks.
