Release list
deSPIRIA on dream-recomp v0.1.1
Smooth movies, no audio crackles, clean letterbox bars.
Fixes
- Stutter in the logos and opening movie. dream-recomp's frame pacing kept its state in a variable that had gone out of scope, so its timing target wandered; and whenever it fell behind it sprinted to catch up, playing ahead in bursts. It now owns its state and, after a hitch, carries on instead of sprinting.
- Audio crackles. Sprints and the small drift between the sound card's clock and the PC's overfilled the audio queue, and the overflow was thrown away as audible clicks. Playback speed is now nudged (by at most half a percent, far below what anyone hears) to keep the queue steady.
- Glitched right-hand black bar in a maximized or wide window: the picture's last column was smeared across it. The bars are now black.
Measured through the opening movies with the window maximized, in Windows' "Best power efficiency" mode: full speed, no dropped audio, no underruns.
Updating: Quiver offers the update; the next launch rebuilds the game from source automatically (about a minute or two, with the tools already downloaded). Your disc choice and memory card are kept.
Same requirements as v0.1.0: your own deSPIRIA disc as a GDI with the deSPIRIA Translation Initiative's English Chapter 1 preview patch applied; Windows 10/11 64-bit with a Vulkan-capable GPU.
deSPIRIA on dream-recomp v0.1.0
First release: play deSPIRIA (Sega Dreamcast, Atlus 2000) natively on Windows, in English, with dream-recomp.
You need your own disc, dumped as a GDI, with the deSPIRIA Translation Initiative's English Chapter 1 preview patch applied (any battle speed; Brisk was tested). This zip contains no game data, no translation files and no compiled game.
Install: extract anywhere (or add it from Quiver) and run deSPIRIA.exe. The first launch asks for your patched .gdi, downloads pinned, checksummed build tools and dream-recomp's source (about 1 GB), and builds the game on your PC in a few minutes. Later launches start straight away. Saves and the build live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\deSPIRIA-DreamRecomp.
What works: title, menus, the opening movies with sound, and New Game into the opening story, at full speed on a 15 W laptop with integrated graphics. Tested through the opening, not a full playthrough.
Included fixes to dream-recomp (GPL-2.0 overlay): sound-chip 32-bit register writes (the game was silent), stride textures and in-place texture updates (movies were smeared and froze), DLL deployment on Windows, and precompiled shaders so no Vulkan SDK is needed. Three functions run in dream-recomp's interpreter as workarounds for translator defects; see the README.
Requires Windows 10/11 64-bit and a Vulkan-capable GPU.
