Instance 1.0.0

The first release of Instance: an open-source, clean-room reimplementation of GameMaker 8.1 in Rust. It opens .gmk and .gm81 projects and plays them the way you remember.

Try it in your browser, no install needed.

What's in it

• The full IDE: sprite, sound, background, path, script, font, timeline, object and room editors, an image editor and a debug mode.
• The full runtime: GML, drag-and-drop actions, views, particles, surfaces, 3D, MIDI, extensions and DLLs, faithful to GM 8.1's quirks.
• Create Executable and Export Web Page (a single .html file that plays in any browser).
• Project folders: keep a project as plain text and PNGs, ready for git.
• Three example games in File > Examples: Spelunky Classic, Emberwood and Gravity Grade.

Linux isn't officially supported yet, but it should work when built from source (see the README).

The builds aren't code-signed. On Windows, click More info > Run anyway in the SmartScreen warning. On macOS, right-click the app and choose Open the first time, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Instance.app.
