Manga2Ink v0.1.0-alpha.20

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Before you update

  • The checkbox "Create one book for the series" is gone. Whether a series is one book is now chosen for each series, under Books in Edit books and volumes: one book per volume, one for the whole series, or the folder converted as it is. A choice kept in the old setting is not carried over; choose again for the series that should be one book.

Added

  • Choose between the versions of a chapter. When two files hold the same chapter (the same chapter from two scan groups, say), the row says Choose versions and the window asks which to use: one, both side by side, or neither. Each file is shown by its first page. The choice is kept with the folder, so it is there when the folder is added again, and nothing runs until every chapter is decided.
  • One book for the whole series, with no volumes needed. A series whose chapters carry no volume can be one book: its table of contents is the chapters alone (Ch.1, Ch.2, …). A series that has volumes keeps them as the first level. A library chooses for each title between one book per volume and one book for the title.
  • The queue says when a series' own choice overrides the steps. A series made one book is joined and converted, and a folder left as it is is only converted, whatever the steps say; the row tells so under its name.
  • A source that has the series but no volumes for it says so. Searching MangaDex for a series published without volumes used to end in silence; it now shows a notice, applies nothing, and points to the whole-series book.
  • A refined mascot in the app icon, the About page and the website.

Changed

  • Chapters are named by their number in the table of contents (Ch.6 - Title), not by their place in the volume, so a book says chapter 8 when it is chapter 8 even if chapter 3 is missing.
  • Chapter names such as Ch.0001 (en) [Group] are read, with their language and group, as the MangaDex downloaders name them.
  • The button of a folder's row is now Edit books and volumes, since that is where the books are chosen.

Fixed

  • A folder of CBZ chapters is joined before it is converted, also with grouping skipped. In alpha.19 it stopped after the queue had said the folder was ready.
  • The taskbar shows the app's icon, and not Electron's, when the app is started from its folder (npm start).

Not yet

  • The titles of a library do not ask which version of a chapter to use.
  • Notifications are the system's, so they appear only when notifications are allowed for Manga2Ink. Notification delivery has not been manually checked on unsigned macOS builds or the portable Windows ZIP.
  • On a Mac, closing the window of a running conversion lets the computer sleep again, though conversion continues.
  • Updating is manual: the installers are unsigned and there is no update feed.

Manga2Ink v0.1.0-alpha.19

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Added

  • Seven fixed-resolution device profiles, alongside the existing e-reader profiles.

Changed

  • The conversion tool is now mangaprep 0.9.0, the new name of mangapress, following Kindle Comic Converter 12.1.1. The app, diagnostics and guide use the new name. It is still bundled with Manga2Ink.
  • Updated device names: Kindle 11/2026, Kindle Paperwhite 6/2026 and Kobo Clara BW.
  • Boxes, fields and selects have thin edges again in both themes. They remain below WCAG's control-edge contrast requirement by choice; a higher-contrast theme is not available yet.

Fixed

  • Updated the schema validator to Zod 4.6.7, including the fix for excessive memory use when validating oversized collections.
  • The first launch after upgrading from Mangabound imports its settings and window state even if the installer has already created caches in Manga2Ink's data folder. Installer maintenance runs no longer start the app or interfere with that first launch. Existing Manga2Ink settings are kept.
  • A series kept as one folder or file for each volume can be converted. Collections such as 第01巻 and 第02巻, or v01 and v02, no longer stop with a duplicate-chapter error. Chapters numbered again inside each volume's folder also work; actual duplicate chapters in one volume still need to be resolved.
  • Kobo EPUB filenames replace characters that can prevent the reader from opening them. Dr. Stone! Vol.01 100% becomes Dr. Stone_ Vol.01 100_.kepub.epub, while the title inside the book stays as typed. This also applies when Name the book .epub is selected. Avoid special characters in the destination folder names on the Kobo too.
  • Grayscale gamma and 16-bit page decoding follow KCC 12.1.1. Pages detected as grayscale are converted to gray before gamma is applied, and 16-bit images use the same 8-bit samples as KCC.

Not yet

  • Notifications are the system's, so they appear only when notifications are allowed for Manga2Ink. Notification delivery has not been manually checked on unsigned macOS builds or the portable Windows ZIP.
  • On a Mac, closing the window of a running conversion lets the computer sleep again, though conversion continues.
  • Updating is manual: the installers are unsigned and there is no update feed.

Manga2Ink v0.1.0-alpha.18

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Before you update

  • Mangabound is now Manga2Ink. The app, its installers and its guide have the new name and a new logo. The guide is at https://gustavommcv.github.io/manga2ink/ and the project at https://github.com/gustavommcv/manga2ink. The guide's old address no longer answers, so the User guide button of an earlier version leads nowhere.
  • Your settings come with you. The first time Manga2Ink opens, it takes Mangabound's settings, the books it had not saved and their covers, so nothing is lost. Your libraries stay as they are, and the books Mangabound saved are still listed and shared.
  • Remove Mangabound yourself on Windows, Debian or Ubuntu, and macOS. There Manga2Ink is installed beside it, and Mangabound stays until you uninstall it (or, on a Mac, move it to the Trash). Its settings have gone to Manga2Ink, so if you open it again it starts empty. The Fedora package takes its place, and the Arch package asks to remove it.

Added

  • The app in Japanese. 日本語 is a choice of Language in App settings, Interface, beside English and Português (Brasil), and the whole window is in it. The Japanese pages of the guide now name the controls as the Japanese app does, with pictures of it. It was written with the help of AI and is open to correction, as a note under the choice says.
  • One book for a whole series can be a CBZ or a PDF, not only an EPUB. Create one book for the series is offered in every format and no longer switches the format to EPUB. A CBZ keeps each volume and chapter in its own folder, in order; a PDF has bookmarks for the volumes and their chapters; an EPUB has its table of contents, as before.
  • A PDF has a bookmark for each chapter.
  • Folders named as Japanese collections are read. Chapters named like 第1話, 第1巻 第2話 or [作者] タイトル 第10話, with ordinary or full-width digits, go to their volumes. Chapters kept as .zip files in a folder are read as .cbz files are. A series kept with one folder or file for each volume is read too, but cannot be converted yet (see Not yet).

Changed

  • A new logo, adapted from the artwork JPmarquesbraga supplied, in the app's icon, its title bar and About, and in the guide.
  • JPEG pages are read as Kindle Comic Converter reads them, so a cropped margin or a webtoon cut falls where KCC's does.
  • The edge of a box, a field and a select is softer. alpha.17 gave them an edge you could see, and some found it too hard; it is now between that and the thin line before it. It is below the 3 to 1 contrast that WCAG asks of the edge of a control, by choice, and there is no higher-contrast setting yet.

Fixed

  • A PDF keeps every page at full size. Pages larger than about 2 megapixels were shrunk: slightly on the Paperwhite the app starts with, by a third or more on a Scribe or for a color page. A PDF now holds each page's own JPEG, and is no longer two to four times the size of Kindle Comic Converter's.
  • Edited volumes no longer stop a folder that cannot keep them. A read-only or network folder, or one whose mangabind.json is not valid JSON, can be converted with the volumes you edited: the books are made, and each says The volumes you edited were not kept with the folder. A mangabind.json that is not valid JSON is still never overwritten.
  • The guide says why a chapter cannot leave the volume its name gives, and how to fix the error the volume editor then lists.

Not yet

  • A series kept as one folder or file for each volume (第01巻 and 第02巻, v01 and v02), or with the chapter numbers starting again in each volume, stops before it is converted. The folder is read and the volumes are shown, but with two or more of them the app says "More than one source represents chapter 1" and does not go on, because it asks every chapter number to be different in the whole series. A series whose chapters carry their volume in the name and are numbered all the way through, like 第1巻 第1話, 第1巻 第2話 and 第2巻 第3話, is not affected. This was found after the release and is fixed in the next alpha.
  • Notifications are the system's, so they appear only when notifications are allowed for Manga2Ink. On macOS, where this release is unsigned, and in the portable Windows .zip, the system may not show them; this was not tried on those systems.
  • On a Mac, closing the window of a running conversion lets the computer sleep again, though the conversion goes on until it does.
  • Updating is manual: the installers are unsigned and there is no update feed.

Mangabound v0.1.0-alpha.17

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Before you update

  • The theme now follows your system until you choose one. If you have never changed anything in App settings, the app now looks as your system does: light on a light system, dark on a dark one, and it changes with the system while it is open. Before, it always opened dark. If you have changed a setting, your theme stays as it was. To keep the dark one whatever the system does, open App settings, Interface, and choose Dark (graphite).
  • Nothing else moves. Your books, your settings and the books waiting to be saved stay where they were.

Added

  • Choose how many books are converted at once. Parallel conversions, in App settings, Processing, under While Mangabound converts, is Automatic, which is what the app did before and now says its number (for example Automatic (3 on this computer)), or a number from 1 up to what your computer can be asked for. It applies from the next time you press Process; a queue that is running keeps the number it began with.
  • Automatic (system theme) is a third choice for the Theme, next to Dark (graphite) and Light (paper), and it is where the app starts.
  • A page of the guide for the app settings, in English, Portuguese and Japanese, tab by tab, with pictures of each.
  • The guide offers the language your browser asks for. When your browser's first language that the guide has is not the one of the page, a bar at the top says so, in that language, and you can switch, leave it for now, or not be asked again. Nothing changes until you answer.

Changed

  • Every screen begins the same way, with the way back, the title and what it says, and the title is one size on every page. It no longer has a ring drawn around it when a page opens, since it is not something you tab to; the screen still announces itself to a screen reader.
  • Screens are as wide as what they hold. The queue, the options pages, the volume editor and the results use the width of the window and start at the same place; the library and the details of a book are a column in the middle, and the screen of a running conversion a narrower one. The panel beside the queue and the one beside the books that are ready are the same width.
  • You can see where a control is. An unchecked box, an empty field and a select had an edge that was nearly the color of the card around it, and have one you can see now, in both themes; a box is on the line of its name wherever it is, in the queue's steps, the options, the settings and the chapters of a volume. The small grey text under a name is one grey and one height of line.
  • Warnings and failures have an edge of their own color, amber or red, as they were meant to have; it was grey.
  • The queue keeps its columns. The state of every item (Ready, Needs volumes, Checking…) ends in the same place whatever buttons the item has, as the state of the titles of a library did, and Save as… of a book that is ready stays where it is whether it was saved or not.
  • The first screen fits in the window it opens at, in English and in Portuguese: the queue with nothing in it had a scroll bar for 10 pixels, and now has room to spare, also on a laptop screen with a bar.
  • Quiet buttons line up with what is above them. The way back, Clear, Select all and the close of the settings had their words a few pixels in from the edge they belong to.

Fixed

  • A settings file edited by hand into an odd shape no longer fails to read. An option whose saved value cannot be used goes back to its default, and the others are kept; one very odd shape made the read fail instead.
  • The hint of the language of a book says why there is no button. A folder whose names say a language, in a CBZ or a PDF, now says that only an EPUB carries a language, and the details page of an item means the item's own format, not the queue's.

Not yet

  • Notifications are the system's, so they appear only when notifications are allowed for Mangabound. On macOS, where this release is unsigned, and in the portable Windows .zip, the system may not show them; this was not tried on those systems.
  • On a Mac, closing the window of a running conversion lets the computer sleep again, though the conversion goes on until it does.
  • The app is not in Japanese yet, only the guide is.
  • Updating is manual: the installers are unsigned and there is no update feed.

Mangabound v0.1.0-alpha.16

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Before you update

  • The app speaks Brazilian Portuguese on a system set to it. The language follows your system's by default, so on a Brazilian Portuguese system the whole window is now in Portuguese. To change it, open App settings (the gear in the title bar, or Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux and Cmd+, on a Mac), Interface, Language.
  • Closing the window while a conversion runs now asks first. The computer is also kept awake while it runs, and you are told when a long one ends; those two can be turned off under App settings, Processing. On a Mac, closing the window leaves the app and the conversion running, and quitting is what asks.
  • Nothing moves. Your books, settings and the books waiting to be saved stay where they were. The app starts keeping its window's size and place, and a log, in its data folder.

Added

  • The app is in Brazilian Portuguese, next to English. Every screen, message and native dialog follows the language you choose, and the choice is kept. The guide's pictures are made in each language too, and the Portuguese guide names the controls as the Portuguese app does.
  • App settings, behind a gear in the title bar, with four tabs: Interface, Processing, Updates and About. Ctrl+, (Cmd+, on a Mac) opens it from anywhere in the window.
  • A light theme. Interface now has a Theme: Dark (graphite), which the app has always had and still starts in, and Light (paper), an off-white page in the dark theme's own colors, deepened to be read on white, whose text and colors are checked for contrast. It applies at once, including the window's title bar.
  • Choose where Mangabound works. In Processing you pick the folder it builds volumes in while it converts and keeps finished books in until you save them, with the room left shown. The queue warns, above Process, when the drives have less room than it may take. The tab also says how many books are waiting to be saved, and deletes what nothing has touched for 7, 30 or 90 days, after asking.
  • Know when a long conversion is done. When a conversion that took more than 30 seconds ends and no Mangabound window is in front, a notification says how many books are ready, or that some failed; selecting it brings the window back.
  • Look for a newer version. Updates has a Check for updates button: it says whether a newer version is out, with its day, and Download the update opens the download page in your browser. The app does not install it by itself yet.
  • Help with reporting a problem. About shows the version and the bundled tools with their versions, links to these release notes and the guide, copies the diagnostics for a report (the versions and your system, with no path, name or log) and opens the app's data and log folders. The app now keeps a log file, which may hold the paths of books and folders: look at it before you share it.
  • The window opens as you left it, its size and, where the system lets a program place its window, its position and whether it was maximized.

Changed

  • Closing asks from the moment you press Process to the last item, including the moment between two items. Before, only a conversion in progress was protected, and closing the window just after pressing Process, or between two items, lost the queue without a word.

Mangabound v0.1.0-alpha.15

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Before you update

  • If you use the .rpm (Fedora and other RPM systems), install this version. The .rpm of alpha.14, and of the earlier alphas that were checked (alpha.11 to alpha.13), carries altered copies of the bundled converters mangabind and mangapress. With alpha.14 the app starts, then says that the conversion tools need attention, and the queue and Process do nothing. Install the .rpm of this version over it. The .deb and Arch packages were not affected.

Added

  • The user guide is also in Japanese, next to English and Brazilian Portuguese. Most of its pages are translated; the rest follow.

Changed

  • The user guide is easier to read: the pages on installing, adding manga, volume mapping, conversion settings, processing, saving and the KOReader setup are rewritten in shorter sentences, in English and Portuguese.

Fixed

  • The .rpm no longer changes the bundled mangabind and mangapress. Building the package stripped them, so they no longer matched the files the app checks at every start, and it refused to convert. They are now byte for byte the pinned ones, and the build checks that for the .deb, the .rpm and the Arch package. Thanks to SergioJrP, who found it on Bazzite and fixed it.

Mangabound v0.1.0-alpha.14

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Known issue

  • The .rpm (Fedora and other RPM systems) of this version does not convert. The bundled converters inside it were altered when the package was built, so the app starts, says that the conversion tools need attention, and the queue and Process do nothing. It is fixed in alpha.15: install the .rpm of that version. The .deb and Arch packages of this version are not affected.

Before you update

  • The order of the pages of a chapter can change for some file names. Pages are now put in the order Kindle Comic Converter gives them. A name such as 1.5.png, p01 (2).png or B.png next to a.png comes out in a different place than before, and digits of any script count as numbers. Names like 001.jpg, 002.jpg and Page 1.png come out as they did. If a book you made earlier has pages out of place, convert it again.

Added

  • Conversion options of their own for each item of the queue. A sliders button on a queue row, and on each title of a library, opens the options for that item only: the device, the format and every other choice. An option that differs from the queue's is shown in color, and its arrow puts the queue's value back. Use the queue's options puts back all of them. The results say how many items were converted with options of their own. Options of one item are kept while the queue is open, not for the next launch.
  • The page of the queue's Advanced conversion options says how many items have options of their own, and Use the queue's options for all puts them all back at once.
  • The user guide shows what each advanced option does on real pages, converted with and without it, with the flag that sets it on the command line.

Changed

  • The bundled mangabind is updated to 0.7.2, which orders the pages as described above.

Fixed

  • A saved choice of both stretching to the screen and cropping to fill it showed Crop to fill the screen but made stretched pages. It now shows Stretch to the screen, which is what is made, as in mangapress and Kindle Comic Converter.

Mangabound v0.1.0-alpha.13

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Added

  • A new app icon, contributed by JPmarquesbraga, appears in the desktop packages and user guide.
  • The installation guide has direct download buttons for the latest published packages.

Changed

  • New settings start with CBZ, and the format choices list it before EPUB. Existing saved choices stay unchanged; creating one book for the series still requires EPUB.
  • The bundled mangapress is updated to 0.8.0. Format selection in the app remains explicit, and custom titles still name the output files.
  • Supported PNG or GIF pages that end early can now be recovered. The book keeps the readable part, and the results warn when pages have a blank part. Files whose required headers cannot be read still fail conversion.

Fixed

  • EPUB pages no longer reserve extra line height below their images in KOReader. Convert existing EPUBs again to apply the fix. Reader margins and status-bar settings remain independent.

Mangabound v0.1.0-alpha.12

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Changed

  • The window fits beside another app on a small screen, with a minimum width of 640 pixels.
  • The user guide has more illustrated examples and Linux installation commands. The README and contributor guides are shorter and easier to navigate.
  • Packages include the bundled converters' licenses and dependency notices.
  • Custom book titles still name the saved files, even though the updated converter now names files after their inputs by default. Characters unsuitable for filenames use a portable spelling; the title inside the book is unchanged.

Fixed

  • Grouping counts only supported image pages. Results identify unreadable chapter archives and oversized entries that were left out. The queue also names linked series folders that were skipped in a library.
  • Cancelling grouping stops before the final archive is published. Invalid metadata ranges are rejected, and scan warnings remain visible even when no chapters are found.
  • EPUB navigation has consistent chapter ordering in a combined book, and centered pages use the standard EPUB property.
  • Kindle DX output dimensions and the 1920-pixel EPUB width limit for larger Scribe profiles match Kindle Comic Converter 12.
  • Conversion checks input sizes and image dimensions before decoding, refuses unusable output names, and does not overwrite an existing book. Saved books keep ordinary file permissions on Linux and macOS.
  • Use the images as they are with BMP images is refused for EPUB, with a recovery message. Normal BMP conversion and CBZ output remain supported.
  • The Arch package uses the same default application icon as the other Linux packages.

Security

  • Conversion follows folder links only when their destination remains inside the selected input.

Mangabound v0.1.0-alpha.11

An alpha: the installers are not code-signed. How to install, and what to expect from the system, is in the installation guide. SHA256SUMS checks the downloads.

Before you update

  • Every conversion changes. mangapress goes from 0.6.0 to 0.7.2 and makes pages the way Kindle Comic Converter 12 does. In KOReader, EPUB pages are no longer stretched (they came out 11 to 15% wider than drawn). Convert again the books you made before.
  • Linux: the .deb, .rpm and Arch packages of alpha.10 could not convert for a normal user. Fixed; install this one over it.
  • Windows: unsaved books and attached covers move from the installer's folder to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mangabound Data on the first start. Nothing is replaced.
  • Sharing now serves every book that is ready to save, old unsaved conversions included. They cannot be deleted while shared.

Added

  • The options of mangapress 0.7: page layout in five sections, image options in two, a Cover section, Use the images as they are, and Name the book .epub for a Kobo. Color now follows the device.
  • A cover of your own for each book, on the details page.
  • The results say what mangapress noticed (small pages, pages converted already, files that are not images), once for each kind.
  • Use pt-br on the details page when the folder names declare a language. Language tags are written in BCP 47 form (pt-BR).
  • Chapter folders left out because their names are not chapter names (Omake, Ch.004 [GroupA]) are named in the queue and the editor, for a folder and for each title of a library.
  • A SHA256SUMS file among the release files.

Changed

  • A Kobo's EPUB is named .kepub.epub, as Kindle Comic Converter names it. A loose CBZ takes its cover from a Covers folder beside it.
  • Converting some titles of a library binds only those, not the whole library first.
  • Saving to a FAT or exFAT drive needs room for the book once, not twice.
  • Saving volumes keeps the other keys of mangabind.json. A file that is not valid JSON is refused, not overwritten.
  • The validated plan names the books the run will really make.
  • Cancel stops the item that is running. A question that opens in place takes keyboard focus. A screen reader hears one message for each tenth of the work, not one for each page.

Fixed

  • Two copies of one chapter: the editor refuses to place one (mangabind skips all copies), and the results say what a book lacks.
  • A title over 200 bytes, or an option out of range (gamma 18 for 1.8), is refused at the start. One bad value no longer drops all the saved options.
  • Number fields: clearing one and typing 2 gives 2, not 12. A decimal comma is accepted.
  • Sharing: Stop sharing ends the downloads in progress, an idle connection is dropped after a minute, quitting does not wait for a stalled download, and a malformed address is not found instead of an error. A title with a character XML forbids no longer breaks the catalog.
  • What a killed run left behind is cleared at the next start.
  • Names that differ only in how an accent is written are no longer taken for different ones.
  • The window no longer shows a screen for an item that is gone, and an option chosen before the saved ones had loaded is kept.

Security

  • A link in a manga folder is followed only if it leads to a file inside it (mangabind 0.6.1).
  • The share answers only to an address of your computer (the numbers the app shows, localhost, the computer's name), so a web page cannot reach it through your browser.
  • The window loads from the app's own address, talks only to the app and has only the permissions it uses. One copy of the app runs at a time.

Bundled: mangabind v0.6.1, mangapress v0.7.2. Full changelog
