Commentail 1.4.0 — independent email and early rule rejection
Commentail 1.4.0 adds independent email delivery and early guest rejection by hard moderation rules.
COMMENTAIL_EMAILselects a separate Django email backend, constructor options and sender. Ordinary Django mail keeps its existing settings. Omitting the override preserves shared delivery; provider errors never trigger a fallback.python manage.py test_commentail_email --to recipient@example.orgsends a direct test message without creating comments or outbox jobs. Success means backend acceptance, not inbox delivery.- In Apply rules mode, enabled Reject rules refuse matching new guest text before creating a comment or email. The form preserves the draft and shows the reason from the lowest-ID matching rule, or a localized default. CSV adds an optional
reasoncolumn and accepts legacy three-column imports.
Upgrade
Back up and rehearse the upgrade, install commentail==1.4.0, then run migrate, check and collectstatic --noinput. Restart web and background workers. Migration 0019_moderation_rule_reason adds optional rule reasons; review enabled Reject rules because matching new guest text is now refused before email confirmation. Reversing this migration removes configured reasons.
Upgrades from 1.3.0 or earlier also require the 1.3.1 irreversible migration procedure, including stopped writers and a matching database/key/package backup.
The uploaded PyPI archives retain earlier candidate wording in the bundled README. Their version and runtime are 1.4.0. Use the installation command above and the current documentation; the uploaded archives have not been replaced.
