Relation to blaze-builder

binary contains an implementation of a builder just like found in blaze-builder. IIRC, this implementation was actually the original source for blaze-builder.

Would it make any sense to swap out the locally-maintained Builder for that one? If not, why not?

blaze-builder was merged into the bytestring builder (Data.ByteString.Builder). Binary should eventually use that builder.

This would probably have an effect on how #12 gets implemented.

The plan is to eventually to get rid of the local one and rely on the one in bytestring. blaze-builder is subsumed by the new bytestring builder.

I have the code somewhere to implement the local binary builder using the bytestring builder, but for an unknown reason it performed much worse so I did not go through with the switch. I have not yet investigated why it didn't perform better.
