Highlights

  • macOS 26 Tahoe support. The app icon now uses Apple's modern Asset Catalog format (Icon Composer source compiled to Assets.car), so the icon renders cleanly on Tahoe instead of being wrapped in the gray "squircle jail" container that the OS applies to legacy .icns-only bundles. Closes #65.
  • Sidecar boots on macOS Tahoe. The Node.js sidecar (skima-server) was aborting at v8::Isolate::Initialize on Tahoe because tauri-action's ad-hoc codesigning applied Hardened Runtime to it, which blocks V8's JIT. Shipping an explicit entitlements.plist with allow-jit / allow-unsigned-executable-memory / disable-library-validation fixes it. Closes #66.
  • Auto-update works on Mac. v1.4.0's latest.json was missing the darwin-* platform entries, so existing v1.4.0 macOS users cannot auto-update to v1.4.1 — they need to download v1.4.1 manually once. From v1.4.1 onward the manifest includes both darwin-aarch64 and darwin-x86_64, so subsequent updates roll out through the in-app updater.
  • Per-arch macOS dmgs. v1.4.0 shipped a single universal dmg via lipo -create. v1.4.1 ships separate Skima_1.4.1_aarch64.dmg and Skima_1.4.1_x64.dmg builds because the universal Node sidecar fails to boot on Apple Silicon under specific pkg-fetch versions.
  • Landing page download flow. The public download modal now auto-detects Apple Silicon vs Intel via userAgentData.getHighEntropyValues (Chromium) and surfaces the right dmg, with an explicit swap link if detection is uncertain (Safari).

Install

Platform File
macOS (Apple Silicon) Skima_1.4.1_aarch64.dmg
macOS (Intel) Currently unavailable in v1.4.1 — see known issue below. Coming in v1.4.1.1.
Windows Skima_1.4.1_x64-setup.exe
Linux (AppImage) Skima_1.4.1_amd64.AppImage
Linux (.deb) Skima_1.4.1_amd64.deb

macOS first-launch step

The macOS bundle is ad-hoc signed (no paid Apple Developer cert), so Gatekeeper will block the first launch. After dragging Skima.app to /Applications, run:

```bash
xattr -cr /Applications/Skima.app
```

Or follow the System Settings flow from the download modal on the landing page.

Known issues

  • macOS Intel dmg missing: the bundle_dmg.sh step on the macos-26-intel runner failed in CI for this release, so Skima_1.4.1_x64.dmg was not published. Intel users currently cannot install v1.4.1; they will be served v1.4.1.1 once the CI bundling failure is fixed. v1.4.0 Intel remains installable from the previous release tag in the meantime.
  • Cold start on M1/M2 (#59): one user previously reported ~60s cold start on early Apple Silicon hardware. Spot-tested on M4 Pro / Tahoe and got <5s warm / ~10s cold, which suggests the original report was hardware-specific or fixed incidentally. Issue kept open for ongoing data points.

Internals

  • Added src-tauri/icons/Skima.icon/ (source for the Asset Catalog) and committed src-tauri/resources/Assets.car (built via xcrun actool on a Tahoe machine, since macos-latest GitHub runners are Sequoia until the June 2026 migration).
  • Added src-tauri/entitlements.plist and wired it through bundle.macOS.entitlements in tauri.macos.conf.json.
  • Added scripts/build-macos.sh as the documented local build path (compiles Skima.icon via a /tmp working copy to sidestep an actool NSException on OneDrive-mirrored paths).
  • Workaround for a pkg-fetch regression that lands a broken Node 20.20.2 prebuilt: the macOS sidecars in CI are downloaded from the sidecar-binaries-v1 release rather than re-built from pkg-fetch. v1.4.2 will migrate the sidecar from @yao-pkg/pkg to bun build --compile + Prisma 7 driver adapter, which removes the pkg-fetch dependency entirely.
