MoleditPy 5.0.0a2 is an alpha release from migrate/pyside6-without-openbabel, commit a98ef9cc5499d3fa4ae0f40bcba1e232a1d12078.

  • Fix a native Qt crash on Linux/Python 3.12: UIManager and its style watchdog timer now share the main window's lifetime. The fix is included in this release; 5.0.0a1 remains unchanged.
  • Add the MoleditPy 5 plugin development manual, covering PySide6, Qt object ownership, the optimizer API and independent plugin licensing. The v4 manual remains historical documentation.
  • Update installation and standalone application documentation. Windows smoke checks read the package version from project metadata.

MoleditPy 5 uses PySide6-Essentials and one MoleditPy Python package on Windows, macOS and Linux. Python 3.9–3.14 is supported. Open Babel and PyQt6 are absent from the core dependencies and standalone bundles. GUI plugins need a MoleditPy 5/PySide6 version; old PyQt6 plugins are skipped with a migration warning.

The core is LGPL-3.0-or-later. Independent plugin authors may choose their own licenses; their dependencies retain their own terms. See the licensing policy and library replacement instructions.

Validation: all 39 source-commit CI checks passed before publication. The release workflow completed successfully, including Windows and macOS builds and PyPI publication. The actual published Windows Portable exe was launched without arguments on Windows: the Untitled - MoleditPy Ver. 5.0.0a2 window and its editor controls were detected, and the application remained responsive for at least 77 seconds. The version/library-layout check also passed. Screenshot activation failed, so this does not claim screenshot-based rendering verification. The post-publication PyPI matrix passed all 18 OS/Python combinations with version 5.0.0a2 explicitly pinned.
