007: NightFire PC port 1.0.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Oct 11:05

A fix release of the unofficial native PC port of 007: NightFire (original Xbox).

The build stopped at "Driving.xbe": fixed

Version 1.0.0's launcher took only default.xbe from your disc, so every build stopped while preparing, with
file SHA1 failed to read file ... assets/Driving.xbe in the launcher's log, on every disc. NightFire is two
programs (the driving missions are Driving.xbe), and the launcher now takes both from your disc, builds both, and
installs both (Nightfire.exe and NightfireDriving.exe) into NightFire\play.

Updating

Open NightFireLauncher.exe (the 1.0.0 one you have): it offers this release at the top. Press Update the
launcher
, and when it has restarted press Build. Or download NightFireLauncher.exe below and put it in place
of the old one. Your disc choice, saves and settings stay as they are.

No game files are included. You need your own copy of the game (the European PAL or the USA release). See the
v1.0.0 notes for everything in the port.

Problems: the game's log is in NightFire\play\logs, the launcher's in NightFire\launcher.log.

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Oct 09:42

The first release of the unofficial native PC port of 007: NightFire (original Xbox): the game's own code
statically recompiled into Windows programs, not an emulator.

No game files are included. You need your own copy of the game (the European PAL or the USA release): an .iso of your
disc, or a folder with its files. The game is built on your PC from your disc.

Getting started

  1. Download NightFireLauncher.exe below and put it in a folder of its own.
  2. Run it. Windows may warn about an unrecognised app: More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Choose your disc image (or folder), accept Microsoft's license for its C++ libraries, press Build. The first
build takes 30 to 90 minutes.
  4. Press Play. PC Settings is in the game's main menu; F1 opens the full settings window at any time.

Updates

The launcher looks for new releases when it starts. When there is one it offers Update the launcher (it downloads
the new launcher, checks it and restarts), What's new and Later, then rebuilds the game from that release,
keeping your saves and settings. This first launcher is the one download you make by hand.

What's in it

  • On foot and driving: the on-foot missions and the driving missions (Paris Prelude, Alpine Escape, Enemies
Vanquished, Deep Descent, Island Infiltration), with the switch between the two halves of the game done for you.
  • Widescreen and ultrawide, on foot and in the driving missions: the view widens to the screen, the HUD and menus
keep their 16:9 shape in the centre. A field of view setting, and 60 FPS.
  • Keyboard and mouse like a PC shooter: direct mouse aiming with no auto-aim, a slower mouse when zoomed, the
mouse wheel for weapons, a guided missile that steers with the mouse, the mounted guns aimed with the mouse, and a
separate key layout for driving. Every key can be rebound.
  • Your keys on screen: the game's button pictures in tutorials, menus and controls pages show the keys and mouse
buttons while you play on the keyboard, and switch back for a controller.
  • Clean text: the game's font redrawn at high resolution (Sour Gummy Black), with sharp HUD pictures.
  • PC Settings in the game's own menus, from the main menu and the pause screen: field of view, mouse
sensitivity and invert, display mode, resolution, vsync, frame cap and more.
  • Controllers: Xbox, PlayStation and Switch, with hot plugging and rumble; the prompts show today's Xbox pad
(LB and RB, Menu and View).
  • Achievements: 19, with pop-ups and a list in the settings window.
  • Direct3D 12 or Direct3D 11: pick the renderer in the settings window (it applies at the next start).
  • Quality of life: hide the HUD for screenshots, Quit Game in the main menu and the settings window, the mouse
wheel zooms a scope, skip the intro logos, a
shader cache so later sessions run without hitching.

Known limits

  • The European (PAL) and USA releases are supported; other releases have not been checked.
  • Not every mission has been played through to the end on PC yet; please report anything that goes wrong.
  • Achievements are awarded when a mission is completed; loading a save where missions are already done awards
    nothing until the next completion.

Saves from a build of your own: copy its hdd folder into NightFire\play, so the save is at
NightFire\play\hdd\E\UDATA\45410026\....

Problems: the game's log is in NightFire\play\logs, the launcher's in NightFire\launcher.log.
