DriveClub Recomp 0.2.5-vr1.3

@hookmanuk hookmanuk released this 23 Oct 13:13

0.2.5-vr1.3

  • Sharp VR DLSS. DLSS upscaling used to be blurry: its full-size picture was shrunk back to the render size and stretched again before reaching the headset. It now goes straight to the headset. DLSS also uses its full sub-pixel pattern and sharper textures.
  • DLSS and sharpening are no longer experimental. VR DLSS, the DLSS model and VR sharpening are now in the VR card and show once a headset size is chosen

Playable in VR at 3200x3200 per eye at 72 FPS.

Changes since 0.2.4-vr1.1

Performance

  • Much smoother frame pacing: far fewer frames over 11.1 ms (at 2560 per eye: about 14% down to 4%), and higher frame rates overall.
  • The two-thread draw path is on in VR again, with its corruption and crash fixed.
  • VR fast mode removed from the launcher as it is now standard.

Fixes

  • Floating vegetation clumps fixed. Occasionally they might be seen, but should be very rare.
  • Grey or black single-frame flashes (mostly on the fly-by) fixed.
  • Repeated and jumping frames in the intro video fixed.
  • Crash fixes: video player, draw thread, and a memory leak.

Steering wheels (from upstream DriveClub Recomp)

  • From the launcher run: Driving->Wheel->Wheel Setup
  • Force feedback from the car's tyre physics (Reworked Physics) or the game's own, with the FFB Tuner for live tuning.
  • Pedals, shifter and handbrake on their own USB, wheels that are two controllers (Fanatec), and the Wheel Setup window.
  • Forces stop when the game ends or crashes.

DLSS

  • VR DLSS fixed: the race-start stutter with DLSS on is gone (3200 per eye with DLSS Quality holds 72 Hz), and DLSS no longer costs extra CPU.
  • New VR DLSS model option (presets K, J, M, L and F).
  • New VR sharpening (LumaSharpen on the final picture), replacing the old DLSS sharpener. Both are in VR EXPERIMENTAL.

Launcher and upstream 0.2.5

  • Settings split over tabs: Graphics, Gameplay, Driving and Benchmark. The new Driving tab has the assists, field of view (F5 / F6 in game), Wheel Setup and force feedback.
  • Benchmark mode, frame pacing and launcher improvements from upstream 0.2.5.

Known: the first race after installing can show the odd glitch while the game builds its shader cache; it settles on later runs.

DriveClub Recomp 0.2.4 with VR, update 1.1.

Changes since vr1.0

  • Higher frame rates in VR: rendering now runs on two threads, and the game's GPU results reach it without stalling. 72fps is now solid on a 9800x3d 5090
  • SteamVR now shows dropped frames, instead of always reporting a steady frame rate.
  • Fixed crashes when a race loads.
  • Fixed grass clumps floating in mid-air, even in the middle of the track.

How to play

  1. Download driveclub-recomp-0.2.4-vr1.1-win64.zip and extract it anywhere you can write to (not Program Files).
  2. Start your headset's OpenXR runtime (for example SteamVR).
  3. Run DriveClub.exe, press Browse next to each game folder (your own dumps of version 1.28: the update and the base game), choose a size per eye under VR headset (OpenXR) and press Play.

The first race at a new eye size can stutter briefly while shaders compile. F8 recentres the seat

Experimental options

Switch on Experimental options in the VR section for:

  • VR DLSS (GeForce RTX) and DLSS sharpening
  • VR fast mode: about 20% more frames per second, but rain drops on the windscreen flicker and some scenery can be misplaced or missing
