@imijes imijes released this 31 Oct 07:56

A Bass Station II-style monosynth firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, also on an iPhone or iPad in RemoteFM1.

What's new

  • New factory patches: 32 sounds of Bass Something 2's own: ten basses (P01–P10), ten leads (P11–P20) and twelve showing off the rest of the synth, including arpeggios, sample and hold, pads, effects, ring mod, FM and sync (P21–P32). They replace ULTIMATE PATCHES Volume 2. The manual's section 6 lists them all. Patches you have saved on your FM-1 are kept.
  • MIDI clock's tempo shown: while the FM-1 follows MIDI clock, GLO SYSTEM shows the incoming tempo, measured every two beats. The ARP page's Tempo knob follows it too, labelled MIDI clock. The patch keeps its own tempo for when the clock stops.
  • Send SysEx without pauses: a whole bank sent as fast as the computer can send it now arrives complete. The FM-1 queues incoming SysEx and holds the computer back while it catches up, where it used to drop messages that came too close together. Firmware updates go through the same queue.

This is still an early release: some of the arpeggiator and sequencer behaviour is modelled from the Bass Station II user guide and has not yet been compared with a real Bass Station II.

Install

  • On the FM-1, in the browser (Chrome or Edge on a computer): the installer. Back up your FM-1 first.
  • On the FM-1, from a terminal, in an fm1-base checkout: python3 tools/fm1_install.py bass-something-2-0.3.fwsc
  • On an iPhone or iPad: put bass_something_2-0.3.rfm1 in RemoteFM1's firmware folder.

Package identity FM-1_62000300. SHA-256:

  • bass-something-2-0.3.fwsc: fed19af9560f68a7a71aca35617282118905bf4ea788a9cba48d09f78e121371

The emulator runs the same firmware in the browser. The manual covers every control.

Building it

In an fm1-base checkout (d8ff8f4, felucca-bsp 305c372) with the two patches in platform/ applied: see the README. The patches are also open as upstream pull requests (felucca-bsp #19 and #20, fm1-base #15, #16 and #17).

@imijes imijes released this 31 Oct 00:07

A Bass Station II-style monosynth firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, now on an iPhone or iPad too, in RemoteFM1.

What's new

  • The Bass Station II panel on every page: each section drawn as the BS2's panel, with its knobs, switches and LEDs, in the BS2's grouping and in one cyan. The extras a BS2 doesn't have sit on mod plates at the end of each section.
  • More of the Bass Station II: its fixed LFO routing, the envelopes' triggering (Multi, Single, Autoglide), retrigger and fixed sustain, the LFOs' delay, slew, keysync and sync, Osc Filter Mod, distortion before the VCA, the VCA limiter (patch format 13; older patches convert)
  • External input: the computer's USB audio through the filter and amp, with MIX FX's EXT level (from 0, it plays straight through as before)
  • MASTER: Save, the Org. Value arrows, and a patch change keeps the arp and sequencer playing
  • Knob response (GLO SYSTEM, KNOBS: FINE, NORMAL, FAST, COARSE): the knobs speed up as you turn them faster
  • Battery under OCT on every page: three bars, or a bolt on USB power
  • GLOBAL: the clock settings together on GLO SYSTEM (Sync, Send Clk), Bluetooth on GLO MIDI
  • SysEx page on the site: get and send sounds and banks from the browser
  • Fixes: a chord struck together could make no sound; the FX button no longer enters rests when the sequencer was left recording

This is still an early release: some of the arpeggiator and sequencer behaviour is modelled from the Bass Station II user guide and has not yet been compared with a real Bass Station II.
