RME ADI-2 DAC Support and HELP

RME provides IR codes for programming a remote. I've had zero luck getting this to work. I've been assuming the format I need to use is "WINLIRC_NEC1". But is that even correct? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hey, i don't know why they always make it wrong. Nec codes are 32-bit codes and not 24bit. They need to specify wether the nec1-checksum repeat with inverted bytes is at the beginning or end of the device-code range so you will have to do some guessing for example the power key can be:

NEC1-Device Code is correct (16-bits): 0001 0010 0011 0100

0x1234 0xDF20 (= 1101 1111 0010 0000 )
OR
0x1234 0xDF20 (= 0010 0000 1101 1111)

Can you test it? Both of them and tell me which one is correct?

So neither worked. I did confirm that my IR blaster (LG V20) was working by using it on my TV. Is it possible to get IR code data out of LG's Harmony database?

Does this look correct? I also tried doing the volume down command and still no luck.

Would it be helpful at all if I used the record function and posted results for a couple buttons? Here are the buttons for volume down and up (which I confirmed to work).

I've seen you've posted also in the RME forum. Maybe you can ask to confirm wether the device code is correct and cannot be changed somehow? To be honest the 0x1234 sounds kinda weird. No one in my database uses this device code. Is it maybe decimal? But well it could also be correct as it is indeed valid Hex.. just for a confirmation..

If really nothing help you can still record a LIRC configuration with a PC or Rpi and get the definitive and correct code ;-) Hope this helps

Luckily, I happen to own a Raspberry Pi and an IR receiver. Here are the results. But they don't resemble what's in the spreadsheet at all... Do you have any ideas? Also in case it wasn't clear, I want to get the app working because there are far more codes available that aren't on the stock remote.

I think i found out: 0x1234 means actually DEVICE: 0x12 , SUBDEVICE: 0x34. which cannot be correctly translated into lirc 0s1234.
Can you try this: I have converted this with irscrutinizer

The devices I used were just the stock remote and RPi with a 3.5 mm connector IR reciever.
I just gave the new codes a try, and still no luck unfortunately... :(

I could go back to the RME forum with the new information. But what exactly should I be asking?

Can you please create a second lirc config but with the "-f" parameter which does record in RAW mode?

I tested out one of the codes and it did work. So I suppose as a last resort I can get a Logitech harmony remote and record every single function. I would really like to avoid that if at all possible.

That did work. The one problem is I can't hold any of the buttons down. How did you convert it?

Holding down is unfortunately something which isnt properly supported yet in irplus because it is very hard to implement correctly. Especially NEC do have a special repeat sequence, which may have caused the strange readings in the first place.

If you have the feeling that keeping pressed is too slow, you can set a faster repeat time globally in irplus.

If this still does not help you can revert back to using the RAW code and attach a repeat sequence. How to do that: use "mode2" instead of irrecord" and keep the button pressed for 1-2 seconds and use that for a code

Thanks again. The button hold down thing is not major. Have you solved the mystery of how the spreadsheet corresponds to these codes. Is it possible that the stock remote uses different codes from the universal set?

Well if you're interested about that i can explain. It's just a matter of how you see things either in LIRC-notation or in Device/Subdevice/Code Notation.

I made a graphic some time ago to explain that difference:

So when we get all 32-bits of a nec code we have for the POWER code exemplary:

0x482C04FB in LIRC notation - that is binary: (use a binary calculator to check)
‭0100 1000 0010 1100 0000 0100 1111 1011‬

Which - in my humble opinion - should be the ONLY way to do it because it represents BEST what is actually coming from the remote in IR light:

Now let's apply the logic to our code and do the inversion:

0001 0010 0011 0100 this makes up for : 0x1234 (DEVICE+SUBDEVICE)
and:
0010 0000 -> 0x20 (Power)
and the missing part is now: 1101 1111
You see, the spreadsheet does not unmistakenly contain ALL needed information to reproduce the IR-code as there is no "standard" to apply here. In THEORY the NEC specification allows to use all 32bits however you like to do. And some remote / device manufacturers in fact are doing. So the BEST way for a proper technical documentation would contain also a small graphic like the one i posted ;-) Hope this is clear now. Have fun doing the math if you like =) Correct me if i made a mistake somewhere
