Install

  1. Download Notero-1.2.0.zip and unpack it.
  2. Move Notero.app to /Applications.
  3. For the first launch, right-click Notero → Open. The app is not Developer ID signed, so macOS may block a normal double-click.
  4. Notero requires macOS 15+ and Apple silicon.

On first launch, Notero downloads approximately 1.9 GB of AI model weights from Hugging Face. This is the app's only network request.

What's New

Recording and recovery

  • A recording that is killed, crashes or is force-quit now leaves a playable file. At most the last few seconds are lost. A power cut can lose more, and a recording killed before this version stays unreadable.
  • A full disk no longer crashes the app or loses the recording file.
  • The 16 kHz working copy is kept when the recording file cannot replace it, so Transcribe Again no longer deletes the only complete copy.
  • A recording file that will not close can no longer freeze Stop or a quit.
  • Audio that arrives after a long device gap is no longer overwritten, and a long gap no longer holds up capture.
  • A recording can start again after a failed start, and interfaces at 88.2, 96 and 192 kHz can record.

Speed and memory

  • A model that is already on disk loads in about 1.6 s, not 8 to 11 s, and loads with no network.
  • Switching models releases the old one first, which cuts the Neural Engine peak by about a third.
  • The window no longer freezes while Stop saves a long transcript (6.9 s on a six-hour meeting).
  • The live decoder's memory no longer grows about 110 MB an hour.

Transcripts and speakers

  • The same file no longer transcribes differently on each run on the test clip: the first window used to come back as invented English filler about half the time.
  • A speaker's name and colour follow the voice when speakers are identified again, and a named speaker the new run does not find is kept.
  • Transcribe Again works on a two-lane recording whose file cannot be opened, with a warning.
  • A job is no longer called Complete when its transcript could not be saved.

Limits

  • All accuracy and speaker evidence is synthetic or read Tagalog. No real Taglish or meeting data was measured.
  • Not tested: a real ⌘Q during a recording, device unplug, sleep and wake.
  • Head-tolerant live agreement is implemented and off by default.

Your existing recordings and notes remain unchanged when updating.
