Releases: jayblast-spec/wit-breaking

v0.1.1

@jayblast-spec jayblast-spec released this 15 Sep 14:09
Add reusable GitHub Action, self-test workflow, and rewrite README

Packages wit-breaking as a composite GitHub Action (uses: jayblast-spec/
wit-breaking@main) -- the actual adoption path for a CI-shaped tool like
this, and one that needs no npm publish since Actions distribute via git.
Added a real self-test workflow that exercises the action end-to-end
against known breaking and non-breaking fixtures (using GitHub's local
action reference support, uses: ./) rather than trusting the YAML by eye.
README rewritten to explain WIT and the Component Model from scratch for
readers unfamiliar with either, walk through why breaking changes matter
here, and be explicit about every design tradeoff and why it was made.

v0.1.0 -- initial release

@jayblast-spec jayblast-spec released this 15 Sep 13:47

First release of wit-breaking: detects breaking changes between two WebAssembly Component Model WIT interfaces.

The equivalent of buf breaking (protobuf) or oasdiff (OpenAPI), for WIT -- no dedicated tool for this existed. Operates on WIT text, not .wasm binaries, deliberately (the official jco toolchain carries a critical-severity transitive vulnerability). Ships as a CLI, a library, and a reusable GitHub Action (uses: jayblast-spec/wit-breaking@main) with a real self-test proving it fails on breaking changes and passes on safe ones.
