This is a major new release.

The highlights are:

  • SatPulse Workbench. A new satpulsewb command serves SatPulse Workbench, a web app for configuring and monitoring a GPS receiver interactively.
  • PPS over a serial port. satpulsed supports use of a PPS signal over a serial port. This means you can use SatPulse to build a stratum-1 NTP server without specialist hardware. It works on macOS as well as on Linux. The new satpulsetool serial command provides a utility for working with a PPS signal over a serial port.
  • RTK corrections. satpulsed can act as an Ntrip caster, client or server, and supports SPARTN as well as RTCM, so it can be set up as an RTK base or rover without external tools.
  • Septentrio receivers. SatPulse now supports Septentrio receivers such as the mosaic-G5.
  • CASIC high-level configuration. Zhongke receivers such as the ATGM332D and ATGM336H now get device-independent configuration from satpulsetool gps, satpulsed and SatPulse Workbench.
  • RINEX conversion. The new satpulsetool convobs command converts raw observations from u-blox, Unicore, Septentrio or RTCM into RINEX for PPP post-processing to find a precise position.
  • More platforms. SatPulse can now be conveniently installed on macOS with a Homebrew tap and on Windows with a zip file. A Debian package for the 32-bit ARM architecture has been added, which supports the Raspberry Pi Zero.

If you are upgrading from 0.2, note the following changes:

  • The JSONL event log format has changed: each event now has a type field and a data payload; the nanos field is replaced by mono; the pulseEdge event type is renamed to phcPulseEdge. Old logs can be converted with the migrate_log.go tool in time/internal/gpsevent.
  • The satpulse@.service unit now stops when a USB receiver is unplugged and restarts when it is plugged back in. To get this, re-enable each instance after installing the package, for example with systemctl reenable satpulse@ttyS0.
  • Passive serial packet logging has moved from satpulsetool gps to satpulsetool serial; satpulsetool gps now always probes or configures the receiver.
  • satpulsetool sdp --show is replaced by --show-ifaces and --show-pins.
  • The default satpulse.toml no longer sets phc.interface, so a fresh install runs without a PHC until the [phc] table is edited. Existing configuration files are unaffected.
