RecordForge v2.3.2
RecordForge 2.3.2
Highlights
- Privacy masks now render on the GPU export path. Blurred mask regions
use a new multi-scale blur pipeline in the native compositor, matching the
compatibility renderer's output. Exports that include privacy masks no
longer need to fall back to the slower FFmpeg pipeline when Auto or GPU
rendering is selected.
Improvements
- Camera overlay decoding on the GPU path now prefetches a frame ahead, so
webcam footage is already queued when the compositor needs it. - Export diagnostics now report per-stage transfer timing (decode, upload,
compose, readback, encode), making it easier to pinpoint where a slow
export spends its time.
Fixes
- Fixed GPU exports producing unblurred or mismatched mask regions compared
to the compatibility renderer — the blur result now passes the
export-parity gate alongside all other compositor features.
RecordForge v2.3.1
RecordForge 2.3.1
Highlights
- Smart Cut projects export reliably. Timelines produced by Smart Cut —
which can split one clip into hundreds of pieces — no longer stall or hang
during export. The audio mix, camera overlay decode, and video segment
pipeline all scale linearly with the number of pieces on both the
compatibility and GPU renderers. - Seamless playback across cuts. The editor preview now uses a pair of
pre-rolled media slots per source instead of one element per clip, so
playing through a densely cut timeline no longer stutters or drops audio
at every splice point.
Improvements
- Smart Cut detection now merges cuts that would leave a kept island shorter
than 200 ms — those read as clicks — and snaps cut edges to the canvas
frame grid so every spliced piece covers a whole number of frames. - Exported video now stays frame-exact against audio on multi-segment
timelines. Previously, off-grid cuts accumulated up to a frame of drift
per splice, which could leave video over a second ahead of audio on a
heavily cut project. - Camera overlays are decoded as one stream per camera track instead of one
process per clip piece, dramatically cutting the number of FFmpeg
processes spawned for cut-heavy exports. - Splitting an audio clip (via Smart Cut, range delete, or split) now
divides its fade-in/fade-out and volume keyframes correctly between the
pieces, instead of copying the full envelope onto every piece.
Fixes
- Fixed exports getting stuck during "compositing timeline tracks" on
Smart-Cut timelines — the audio filter graph was quadratic in the number
of segments and could run for minutes without finishing. - Fixed audio dropouts and 100–300 ms video stalls during preview playback
at each cut boundary; the standby slot is pre-seeked and swapped in at
the splice. - Fixed the preview mounting one media element per clip piece — a 206-piece
Smart Cut could leave 600+ elements preloading at once.
Known issues
- Exports of single-segment or on-grid timelines are unaffected by the
frame-snapping change; only multi-segment plans may produce slightly
different frame counts (by design).

RecordForge v2.2.1
RecordForge 2.2.1
Highlights
- Cloud uploads are now a Pro feature. S3-compatible and Google Drive
storage providers require an active Pro license. The storage settings
show the upgrade state clearly, and exports that include an upload step
check the entitlement before starting so a finished render is never
followed by a failed upload.
Improvements
- Uploads kicked off from an export job now resolve the destination up
front and share the job's progress and retry behavior, so delivery
failures surface in the same jobs view as the export itself. - Cursor, overlay, and keystroke recordings now store their frames in a
packed layout with a precise bounding rect per plane, which reduces
capture file sizes and speeds up scrubbing and export on projects with
heavy cursor effects.
Fixes
- Fixed cloud storage connections appearing available in Settings when
the license was inactive — the UI now reflects the real entitlement
instead of letting uploads fail at run time.
Known issues
- Recordings captured with versions before 2.2.1 keep their original
stream layout and continue to work; the packed layout applies to new
captures only.
RecordForge v2.2.0
RecordForge 2.2.0
Highlights
- Close to tray is now the default. Closing the window keeps RecordForge
running in the notification area so recordings, exports, and uploads are
never interrupted. The first time this happens, a one-time system
notification lets you know where the app went. Use Quit in the tray
menu to exit completely — the setting in Settings → General is now called
"Close to System Tray" if you prefer the old behavior. - One instance, always. Launching RecordForge while it's already running
now brings the existing window to the front instead of starting a second
copy with a duplicate tray icon.
Improvements
- Closing the window while a recording is in progress now parks the app in
the tray instead of risking the session — a stray click can no longer
discard a live recording. - Quitting from the tray menu goes through the normal close path, so the
editor gets a chance to save unsaved work before the app exits.
Fixes
- Fixed a case where the app could keep running invisibly with no window
and no tray icon — closing the window now either parks in a tray that
actually exists, minimizes to the taskbar, or quits cleanly. - Fixed the Windows installer reporting that RecordForge is still running:
second instances no longer hold the executable open, and update installs
can always close the app.
Known issues
- On Windows 11 the tray icon may appear in the notification-area overflow
the first time; drag it out to keep it pinned. - The close-to-tray hint notification may not appear in unpackaged
development builds; it works normally in installed releases.
RecordForge v2.1.9
RecordForge 2.1.9
Improvements
- Hardware-accelerated exports now work on Linux via VAAPI, with automatic
fallback to software encoding when VAAPI is unavailable — exports keep
working on systems without compatible GPU drivers. - Export output resolution is now capped correctly on all encoder paths,
so hardware-accelerated exports respect the same limits as software
encodes.
Fixes
- Google Drive uploads now reliably resolve the target folder: folders are
found or created as needed, and configuration problems are reported up
front instead of failing mid-upload.
RecordForge v2.1.8
RecordForge 2.1.8
Improvements
- Expanded cursor shape recognition: recordings now detect 7 additional
cursor shapes — single-direction resize arrows (up, down, left, right),
vertical text I-beam, context menu, and drag-alias/link cursors — so the
rendered cursor matches what you saw on screen more often. - macOS capture now recognizes more native cursor types, including
directional resize cursors, vertical-layout I-beam, contextual menu, and
drag link/copy cursors (macOS 14+). - Linux/X11 cursor detection now covers common Xcursor theme aliases, so
non-default cursor themes resolve to the correct shape instead of falling
back to the arrow.
RecordForge v2.1.7
RecordForge 2.1.7
Improvements
- Export deliveries are now tracked per job: Instant Share and YouTube uploads
run as post-export deliveries with live progress, and a failed upload no
longer fails the export itself — the rendered file always stays on disk. - Added a retry action for failed deliveries, so a dropped Instant Share or
YouTube upload can be re-run without re-rendering the video. - YouTube auto-publish preferences (privacy, attach captions, captions
language) are now remembered per project. - Hardened the Google/YouTube sign-in flow — concurrent attempts are
deduplicated and abandoned callbacks time out cleanly instead of hanging.
Removed
- Removed the virtual background, brand kit (watermark and intro/outro
cards), studio audio mastering, and auto-reframe Pro features. Projects that
used them still open and export normally; the settings are simply ignored.
Fixes
- The FFmpeg setup script now retries transient download failures with
backoff and uses the correct fallback URL for macOS Apple Silicon builds.
RecordForge v2.1.6
RecordForge 2.1.6
Fixes
- Fixed restoring the app from the system tray on Windows — the window now
comes back reliably instead of staying hidden. The app now minimizes to the
tray rather than hiding, which works around a WebView2 quirk that could
leave the window unrecoverable.
RecordForge v2.1.5
RecordForge 2.1.5
Highlights
- Keystroke badges, upgraded — shortcut presses captured during recording
now render as styled keycap badges in the editor preview and in exports,
with platform-correct modifier glyphs (⌘ on macOS, Win/Super elsewhere).
A new Keys panel controls position, theme, size, stack depth, and how
long badges stay on screen, with a live sample of exactly what ships.
Recordings made before this release still display their shortcuts.
Keystroke badges are a Pro feature. - Smarter Smart Cut — silence removal now analyzes the audio against the
recording's own noise floor, shows detected silences on a waveform overview
and as a list you can review and toggle one by one, and previews the cut
ranges right on the timeline before you commit. Applying is a single
undoable step, and Smart Cut warns you if a locked track would desync the
timeline or if a cut would remove nearly all audible audio. Smart Cut is a
Pro feature.
Fixes
- Fixed waveforms and video thumbnails in the editor sometimes getting stuck
on "loading" forever.
