HXSLabs 1.4.0
Updated 30 October 2026: Clip 1.6.16, with ShortzGen
The app is unchanged: same installer, same checksum, nothing to re-download. Clip was
updated in place, so an installed copy is offered it in Features and a fresh install gets it
straight away.
ShortzGen (alpha)
A new tab that cuts a clip into captioned vertical shorts for TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts.
It all runs on your own PC. Nothing is uploaded. A 53 minute recording takes about twenty
seconds.
It is labelled alpha on the tab and on the page, and it means it: the moments it picks and the
words it hears are both rough enough to be worth watching before you post anything.
It finds moments first and renders nothing. You get the moment itself, played from the
recording on a loop and framed the way the short will be, with what was said in it and why it
was picked. Keep it or skip it. Replacements for the ones you skip are already waiting, so
asking for more costs nothing. Only what you kept gets made.
Marked points win. If you pressed the mark hotkey while recording, that is not a guess about
what you wanted, it is the thing itself, and it becomes a short before anything ShortzGen works
out on its own.
It uses the tracks Clip already keeps apart. Your microphone is transcribed on its own rather
than through the gunfire, and "you reacted" is scored separately from "the game got loud". Every
source you tick helps find moments, and you set the balance between them with sliders while
listening to the preview, so the game can sit under the talking.
Up to three voices can be captioned, each in its own colour on its own line, chosen
separately from which sources are heard: a party chat can be in the short without being written
across it.
Captions need a speech model, which is a download that stays on your PC. There is a choice
between a 40 MB one and a 128 MB one that reads more slowly and gets a little more right.
Also in Clip
- The tab bar no longer paints over the clip count and the folder button when the window is
narrow. The tabs scroll, with the scrollbar's space reserved so the row never changes height. - Right-click a clip to send it straight to ShortzGen.
- Shorts are written to a
Shortsfolder and are no longer listed back as clips of their own. - Picking a clip in the chooser now looks like something happened: the chosen one gets a ring
and a tick.
Updated 27 October 2026: Clip 1.5.0
The app is unchanged: same installer, same checksum, nothing to re-download. Clip was
updated in place, so an installed copy is offered it in Features and a fresh install gets it
straight away.
Automatic War Thunder clips can now reach a minute either side of the kill. The time kept
after the last kill was capped at thirty seconds, and neither dropdown went near a minute; both
now go up to one. Set a wide window and the buffer resizes itself to hold it, the clip length
you chose for the hotkey no longer decides how much of an auto clip survives.
That matters because it used to: everything about the capture was sized from the clip length, so
a window wider than it would have produced a clip with its opening missing rather than a refusal.
The two settings in Clip → Games now say what they add up to, and the buffer estimate under
Clip length reports what the buffer really costs rather than what the hotkey saves. A minute
each way is a 150-second buffer, which is real memory at high resolutions, worth a look at that
estimate before leaving it there.
Kills close together still become one clip, and there is room for a streak to run on past the
window before it is saved and the next kill starts a new one.
Updated 26 October 2026: Clip 1.4.0
The app is unchanged: same installer, same checksum, nothing to re-download. Clip was
updated in place, so an installed copy is offered it in Features and a fresh install gets it
straight away.
The editor has a tab of its own. It used to be reachable only by picking a clip out of the
library, so editing a video from anywhere else meant putting it in your clips folder first. Open
the Editor tab with nothing chosen and it asks for a file: browse for one, or drop it on the
page.
Leaving the editor no longer closes what is open. Click away to a settings tab and back, and the
clip, its edits and the playhead are where you left them, only the playing stops.
It opens far more than it used to. Twenty-five video containers (.ts .m2ts .mts .flv .wmv .asf .mpg .mpeg .3gp .ogv .vob .mxf and the rest, on top of the six it already took) and sixteen
audio ones. Before this, the file dialog offered All files and then refused anything outside
the original six. Your clips folder is still listed from those six on purpose: a recording still
being written sits in its work folder as video-1.ts, and those are not clips.
Install
Download HXSLabs-win-x64-setup.exe and run it. It installs for you only, needs no
administrator rights, adds a Start menu entry and an optional desktop shortcut, and shows up in
Apps & features so it uninstalls cleanly.
Windows SmartScreen will warn, because the build is not code-signed yet. Choose More info →
Run anyway, or verify the download first:
Get-FileHash .\HXSLabs-win-x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

depends on where you put it.
Upgrading from 1.2.0: just run the installer. Your settings, installed features and downloaded
speech models are kept, and uninstalling asks before touching them.
.NET is not required, the runtime is inside the download.
Updating from now on
This is the last version you have to update by hand. 1.4.0 can install its own updates: when a
newer version is out, the sidebar offers it, downloads the installer, checks it against the
checksum published in the catalog, and refuses to run it if it does not match. Features (Clip,
Voice, Filter) already updated themselves and still do.
What's new
Clip takes video from anywhere. There is an Open a video button on the Clips page, and you
can drop files straight onto it, so a clip someone sent you can be edited without having been
recorded here. Drop several and the rest land on the timeline behind the first. The library lists
.mp4 .mov .mkv .webm .avi .m4v instead of only the .mp4 files Clip records, so a video copied
into your clips folder now shows up with the rest.
Edited copies of an imported video are saved into your clips folder, where they join the library
for good.
Filter understands where a swear sits in a word. The old list matched whole words, so
"motherfucker" and "bullshitting" went out untouched. Entries now say where the stem may sit, and
the shipped list went from 17 entries to 96, covering the variations people actually say. It was
checked against the speech model's entire 369,000-word vocabulary rather than guessed at, which
is what stops it bleeping saltwater, wristwatch, Yamashita or assassin. An unedited copy of the
old list is upgraded automatically; a list you have edited is left alone.
Voice keeps your settings and your hotkeys. Three fixes, each of which could cost you
something real:
- Setting a hotkey and then switching tab or closing the window used to leave the capture armed,
which silently killed every hotkey and took the next key you pressed, in a game or anywhere
else, as the binding. - Making the cable your default microphone left it that way after HXSLabs closed, so every other
app recorded silence from a cable with nothing in it. Your own microphone is put back on exit
now. - Starting with a microphone switched off erased your saved device choices, so plugging it back
in fell back to the Windows default.
A real installer, which is the headline for anyone who has installed this before: no more
unpacking a zip and hunting for the exe among 215 files.
HXSLabs 1.2.0
The app is the download below. Features install from inside it — open Get features and pick
what you want.
| Feature | Version | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Clip — instant replay, long recordings, clip editor with video overlay | 1.3.0 | 76 MB |
| Filter — censors spoken words for a stream, offline recognition | 1.2.0 | 12 MB |
| Voice — voice changer, soundboard, per-app microphones | 1.2.0 | 0.6 MB |
Changed in this release
Voice asks before installing the virtual audio cable. Previously, opening the Voice tab with no
cable installed downloaded VB-Audio's installer and ran it by itself. It now explains what it is,
who makes it, where it comes from, that Windows will ask for administrator permission, and that it
stays installed if you remove HXSLabs — and does nothing unless you agree. Saying no is remembered,
and the offer stays for whenever you change your mind.
A feature also now says what it will ask to install before you install the feature, on its card
under Get features.
Notes
Windows 10 version 2004 or newer, 64-bit. The .NET runtime is included, so there is nothing else to
install, and it needs no administrator rights.
Windows will warn about the download the first time, because the app isn't code-signed — choose
More info then Run anyway. To check you have what was built, compare the archive against
HXSLabs-win-x64.zip.sha256 below.
The archive name no longer carries the version, so a download link keeps working across releases.
HXSLabs 1.1.0
Superseded — please use the latest release.
The Voice feature in this release installs the VB-Audio virtual cable by itself the first time its
tab is opened, without asking. 1.2.0 asks first. The download link in this release also has the
version in its file name, which later links do not.
First public release of HXSLabs.
