10 Essentials Intro #4
Comments
So does this need to a be page? It would be good to have a drawn mockup of the apps design to help clarify everything. |
Hi- it doesn't need to be a page for the 10 Essentials, if you have a
different idea about how it could be implemented.
Try visiting the website to get a feel for what it is now. I think we can
provide new functions in a mobile app, so we don't need to be tied to
reproducing the website exactly.
A drawn mock-up would be nice- is there anything in Google docs we could
use?
Here's the website link:

Yeah that's a lot of information and to set up an app with that many views will be memory intensive. We should probably have it is a set of buttons: tap on a button and the relevant text is displayed in a single textview. Not sure about Google Docs but I'm sure there's something there. If not, Figma isn't bad either. Even a drawing on paper with a design, uploades here would be fine. |
Ok, I'll see if I can put pen to paper. Here's some YouTube videos that
cover CMC topics- this one covers the 10 Essentials.

Hi Jason, thanks for these questions- it's started me thinking. We don't
need to recreate the website in the app. People can visit the website for
that information.
The app is interactive in a way that the website isn't. I started a list
of what the website does and what the app could do (the picture was
rejected by GitHub, email file size was too large).
Maybe we should start by asking what people might want in an app-- let's
assume that the person has visited and/or stayed at the hut.
What questions could we ask to find out what they might want in an app?

I'll think on this a bit. For the image I recommend imgur and just posting a link in the readme. |
Ok, I've posted the pic to imgur. After thinking about it, I like the idea
about having buttons to cycle through the text content- maybe it could be
in 1 activity then?
I think getting something going to show people- i.e. the website content,
is a place to start. After people see the potential, I'm sure there'll be
feedback for new features and functions.

Ok- how about this? |
Hi Jason, thanks for the ideas. I've been able to implement a version of them. I think we'll each be making our own project apps during the Nanodegree. I'll keep this going until the Nanodegree is done and then we can collaborate on a joint branch as a group project. I'm really excited about this! :) |
Sounds good! Been super tied up so lets re-convene in a bit!

10 Essentials Intro: This is usually a list of the 10 things needed for wilderness survival. The running joke is that the 10 Essentials are never the same- depending on the outdoor sport and season of the year. This might be better as an app by itself if it gets complicated.
