E-commerce webpage
E-commerce Website Project Documentation
Project Overview The goal of this project is to develop a functional and visually appealing e-commerce website that allows users to browse products, add items to the shopping cart, and complete the purchase using a secure payment gateway. The website will be built using front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) with Razorpay integrated for payment processing.
Technologies Used
- Front-End Development HTML (Hypertext Markup Language): HTML will be used to create the structure of the website, including the homepage, product listing page, individual product pages, shopping cart page, and checkout pages.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets): CSS will be used to style the website to make it visually appealing and user-friendly. CSS will control layout, typography, colors, and responsiveness to ensure the website works well on all devices (desktop, tablet, and mobile).
JavaScript: JavaScript will be used to add interactivity to the website. For example, it will handle dynamic changes to the shopping cart, update product quantities, and calculate total prices. JavaScript will also be used to interact with the Razorpay API for payment integration.
- Payment Gateway Integration Razorpay: Razorpay will be integrated as the payment gateway to securely handle financial transactions. Razorpay offers easy integration with various payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, net banking, wallets, and UPI. Tools & Development Environment
- VS Code VS Code (Visual Studio Code) will be used as the primary integrated development environment (IDE) for writing HTML, CSS, JavaScript code. It provides a wide range of features like IntelliSense, syntax highlighting, and extensions that make coding easier and more efficient.
- Sublime Text Sublime Text will also be used as an alternative code editor. It is lightweight and has powerful features like multi-line editing, quick navigation, and package support for extending functionality.
- Browsers: Chrome or Firefox will be used to test and view the website during development. Key Features of the E-commerce Website Homepage:
Displays featured products and categories. A search bar to find products quickly. Navigation links to various sections such as Home, Products, Cart, and Checkout. Product Listing Page:
A list of products with images, names, and prices. Filters for sorting products by category, price range, and brand. An option to add products to the shopping cart. Product Details Page:
Detailed information about a selected product, including descriptions, images, price, and availability. An option to add the product to the shopping cart. Shopping Cart:
Displays all selected items in the cart. Option to update quantities or remove products. Total price calculation, including taxes and shipping. Checkout Page:
Collects customer information (name, address, contact details). Provides a payment option using Razorpay. Option to review the order before completing the payment. Razorpay Payment Integration
- Razorpay API Setup Create a Razorpay account: Before integration, you need to create a Razorpay account and generate your API keys (Key ID and Key Secret) from the Razorpay Dashboard.
Install Razorpay Script: To use Razorpay's payment gateway, you'll need to include their JavaScript library in the HTML code. This can be done by adding the following script tag in the section:
- Payment Flow Frontend (JavaScript):
When a user clicks on the "Pay Now" button on the checkout page, JavaScript will trigger a function that interacts with the Razorpay API to generate the payment order. This involves creating an order on the server-side (which will be done using Razorpay’s API) and passing the order details to the Razorpay Checkout form.
Backend (Server-side):
A backend server (could be written in Node.js, Python, PHP, etc.) will interact with Razorpay's API to create a payment order. The backend will generate the order and send the details (like order_id) to the front end for payment initiation. Success/Failure Handling:
Upon a successful payment, the payment details (transaction ID, payment ID) will be displayed to the user, and an order confirmation email can be sent. If the payment fails, the user will be notified of the error, and they can retry the payment process.
Conclusion This e-commerce website will provide a smooth and user-friendly shopping experience. By integrating Razorpay as the payment gateway, customers will be able to make secure payments. The website's design, built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, will ensure that it is responsive and visually appealing across different devices.
