Summary

This release tightens the scalar allowlist: uppercase ASCII Latin letters (U+0041–U+005A) are no longer listed in either corpus_inclusive (data/inventory.json) or phonetic_strict (data/inventory.phonetic-strict.json). Lowercase ASCII Latin (U+0061–U+007A) remains for mixed orthography beside IPA. dataset_version is 1.6.0 on both inventories and data/normalization.json; the npm package version is 1.6.0; MetaConstants::DATASET_VERSION matches.

Removed

  • Policy: Uppercase ASCII Latin (U+0041–U+005A) from corpus_inclusive and phonetic_strict; mixed orthography allowance is lowercase ASCII Latin only (U+0061–U+007A).

Changed

  • dataset_version 1.6.0 (both inventories, normalization.json; schema_version unchanged at 1.0.0).
  • Compare scripts: User-Agent ipa-unicode-inventory-compare/1.6 (compare-ipa-chart-westonruter.mjs, compare-mediawiki-validator.mjs).
  • scripts/gen-inventory.py: emits only lowercase ASCII Latin letter rows; meta.policy_description and per-row notes updated.

Upgrade note

Strings that previously validated but contain A–Z as plain ASCII capitals will fail scalar checks unless you fold case, restrict orthography to lowercase, or extend your own allowlist. Regenerate local npm run build artifacts if you depend on build/output/ (PCRE fragment, minified JSON, PHP maps, manifest).

Assets

Attach npm run build outputs for consumers without Node (for example minified inventories, PCRE fragments, code_points*.txt, manifest.json, generated PHP maps), consistent with your usual release checklist.
