Actually, this works in IE 8–10, but creates problem in all other browsers. I'm going to have to think about this a bit more.

Does checking the active element before and after the delay help?

Per a chat with @mikesherov, I'm going to try an alternative approach of only calling blur() if this.element[ 0 ] === event.target.
