Compare to a local version of a package

When you've changed something in the build setup of a project, it can be interesting to compare the built tar locally with the last published version. As far as I found this package gets the closest to that, but I did not find an option to not compare two versions on the same registry.

Is there some existing option that can do that already?

Not that I'm aware of, but you could modify this package to accept paths in addition to version strings

I wonder if a syntax could be file:... for the version, as you can do in package.json, and then the download step could be skipped, but still untarred? possibly that could even support regular directories that are supported as well, but not sure what the syntax difference is
