DABplay+ 1.4.0

@jvspier jvspier released this 29 Oct 08:47

New

  • Phones and other screen sizes: DABplay+ now fits screens other than the 1280×720 head unit it was designed on.
On a phone in landscape it is drawn a bit smaller, on large screens a bit bigger, and on smaller head units
(1024×600, or 1280×720 at a higher density) the tabs, tiles and side panel adjust to the space. Before, the bottom
tabs, Settings among them, could fall off the screen.

Changed

  • On a screen too narrow for the side panel, the panel layout shows the player bar instead; Settings → Layout says so.

Fixed

  • Some DTR-100 and C100 sticks found all stations but then played nothing and showed no signal: the chip on the
stick that passes the audio on never did. DABplay+ now notices this within a couple of seconds and reads the audio
straight from the stick's DAB chip instead, the way DABdream+ does. Sticks that already worked keep working exactly
    as before.
  • KINK's "Alternative Rock Radio - KINK non-stop" is no longer shown as if it were a song, also in the head unit's
media widget. KINK marks that slogan as a song itself.

Changed

  • On Now playing, the song line under the picture uses the full width of the screen, so long titles scroll less often.

DABplay+ 1.3.5

Fixed

  • Full screen now hides the head unit's bars the standard Android way. On a head unit that shows its bars anyway, the
app now fits between them instead of being covered
(#2). That used to happen only with Full screen off.

DABplay+ 1.3.4

@jvspier jvspier released this 26 Oct 19:14

Fixed

  • Start with the car now also works on head units that sleep when the car is switched off instead of shutting down
(the Dudu3 does this). Waking up from sleep didn't count as a start, so the app stayed where it was and you had to
open it and press play yourself. Now it comes to the front and plays the last station, as after a cold start.

Changed

  • Settings are grouped: Look, Favorites & radio, Starting, Station logos and Help. The version number is at the bottom.
  • The diagnostics log now also notes the screen going off and on, what opened the app at start-up, and which app or
key pressed play, pause, next or previous. That helps with reports like
    #4.

Fixed

  • The slideshow picture no longer blinks away for a moment every so often. Stations repeat their slides, and each
repeat briefly cleared the picture before showing it again. A new slide now simply replaces the old one.

DABplay+ 1.3.2

@jvspier jvspier released this 21 Oct 18:41

Fixed

  • On some head units the system bars still came back after leaving the app and returning, until Full screen was
switched off and on again (#2). Older Android versions (8 to 10)
ignored the request to hide them again; DABplay+ now makes sure it takes.
  • Some C100 sticks often didn't work when the app started (#3):
their DAB chip needs a moment after power-on, and DABplay+ asked only once. It now waits for it, the way other DAB
apps do. A failed switch to another channel no longer resets the whole dongle either.

Changed

  • While a connected dongle doesn't respond, the app says "DAB dongle not responding, retrying…" instead of "not
    connected".

DABplay+ 1.3.1

@jvspier jvspier released this 20 Oct 18:17

A fix for the head unit's bars, and a choice.

Fixed

  • The system bar no longer covers the app (#2). DABplay+ hid the
head unit's bars only when it started; after another app, a notification or a system screen they came back and stayed,
on some units over the title and clock. They're now hidden again every time you return to the app.

New

  • Settings → Full screen (on by default). Turn it off to keep the head unit's own bars visible, for example a Dudu
navigation bar; the app then fits next to them, so nothing is covered.

Tested on Android 8.0, 10 and 14.

Installing

Android 8 or newer. Download DABplay-1.3.1.apk below and open it on the head unit. It installs over 1.3.0 and keeps
your stations, favourites and settings.

Making it easy to tell us how your dongle does.

What's new

  • Settings → Diagnostics log, with Save (to Downloads or a USB stick) and Share (any app on the head unit or
phone). It makes one file with the app version, every USB device that's connected and what DABplay+ makes of it, and
the app's log. No adb needed any more, and still no song titles in it.
  • A Dongle report form on GitHub that
    asks for exactly that.

Got a C100 Dual Antenna, an Si4684 module (Eonon A503, XFA-DAB220) or a Siano stick (Rhine800, Denver TDMB)? Support for
them is written but nobody has tried it yet: a report, also "it works", helps a lot.

Installing

Android 8 or newer. Download DABplay-1.3.0.apk below and open it on the head unit. It installs over 1.2.x and keeps
your stations, favourites and settings.

DABplay+ 1.2.1

@jvspier jvspier released this 19 Oct 20:09

A fix for C100 sticks from other makers.

Fixed

  • C100 sticks that weren't detected (#1). DABplay+ only accepted
C100 dongles that report one particular manufacturer name, while other makers' sticks report another. It now checks
what actually matters, the stick's USB interface, so every C100 brand should work. Devices that only share the USB ID
(such as hobby electronics) are still left alone.
  • When a USB device has a DAB dongle's ID but isn't one DABplay+ can use, the app now says so instead of "Connect the
    DAB dongle".

If your C100-type stick still isn't detected, please comment on #1 or open an issue with its USB details (vendor and
product ID, manufacturer and product name), for example from the "USB Device Info" app.

Installing

Android 8 or newer. Download DABplay-1.2.1.apk below and open it on the head unit. It installs over 1.2.0 and keeps
your stations, favourites and settings.

Your background, your way.

What's new

  • Background (Settings, under Display): four tints for the page behind everything, as swatches:
Dusk (the original), Ocean, Ember and Aurora. Each one has a day and a night version, so one choice
covers both, also when the theme switches by itself.
  • Pure black at night (off by default): black behind everything whenever the night theme is on, whatever
background you picked. By day you keep your chosen tint.
  • Only the background changes: tiles, text, icons and controls look exactly as before. Nothing changes after updating
    until you pick something.

Installing

Android 8 or newer. Download DABplay-1.2.0.apk below and open it on the head unit. It installs over 1.1.0 and keeps
your stations, favourites and logos.
