Frame updates itself now
Starting with this release, Frame downloads new versions in the background and offers to restart when one is ready. Look for the bell in the header.
Coming from v2.8.2 or earlier? Those versions can't update themselves, so download this one manually just once: get the
.dmgbelow and drag Frame to Applications. From here on, updates arrive on their own.
What's New
- Your AI sessions come back after a relaunch. When you quit and reopen Frame, the last project opens with its Claude Code and Codex terminals resumed where they left off. Plain shells aren't restored. (#173)
- Codex sessions. The Sessions panel now has Claude Code and Codex tabs, and a Codex session resumes with one click. (#177)
- Tasks is now a list. It has the same layout as the Specs screen: All / Active / Done segments, In progress and Pending chips, and a Play button on each task. (#176)
- The project switcher is back in the sidebar, at the top of the panel above Work. (#181)
- New-project onboarding. Fixes to the first-run flow, a setup section in Project Settings, and a new-terminal button. (#172, #171)
Changes
- STRUCTURE.json is opt-in. New projects no longer get a module map, a pre-commit hook for it, or lookup hints. Existing projects keep their files, but the map is no longer updated. To keep it, set
"structureMap": trueundersettingsin.frame/config.jsonand reopen the project. (#180) - Analytics: usage events now go to PostHog as well as Aptabase. Turning analytics off sends one anonymous count that it was turned off, then nothing. See PRIVACY.md. (#165, #178)
Fixes
- The "Frame is sending … IPC msg/s" warning no longer fires because idle Claude Code sessions keep asking the terminal for the cursor position. (#179)
- Merged specs are no longer moved back from done when their tasks are imported. (#175)
- The commit hook no longer pipes file contents through stdin for hashing and no longer runs Git calls without a limit. (#168)
- Packaging fixes for the scripts that
.frame/bin/ships. (#160, #162)
