SSDD 2.2

SSDD 2.2 is a maintenance and modernization release focused on reliability, cleaner internals, and predictable configuration behavior. The interface, default commands, configuration format, and GTK 4.0 minimum remain unchanged.

Highlights

  • Settings now apply immediately. Commands saved in the Settings dialog are used by the running application without requiring a restart.
  • Honest save feedback. Configuration write failures now produce an error dialog instead of reporting a successful save.
  • Safer configuration handling. Missing or empty values fall back to the established defaults and incomplete configuration files are repaired automatically.
  • More reliable application lifecycle. Launching SSDD again presents the existing window instead of creating duplicate windows.
  • No internal command collisions. Settings and Exit are represented as typed actions rather than magic command strings.

Code and build improvements

  • Consolidated labels, icons, configuration keys, and defaults into one action table.
  • Added shared application state with automatic GLib cleanup.
  • Removed redundant manual GResource registration and unnecessary generated-header handling.
  • Made the resource build depend on the application icon so icon updates trigger regeneration.
  • Added stricter compiler warnings while preserving GTK 4.0 compatibility.
  • Added the compiled ssdd.gresource to the repository.

Compatibility

  • Existing ~/.config/ssdd/config files remain compatible.
  • The [Commands] group, configuration keys, default commands, and UI layout are unchanged.
  • No configuration migration is required.

Validation

The release was checked with a normal parallel build, a strict GCC build with warnings treated as errors, cppcheck, configuration save/reload/repair tests, and an isolated headless GTK startup smoke test. No shutdown or session-management command was invoked during testing.

ssdd 2.0

@kekePower kekePower released this 12 Sep 23:54

This is a major bump as I've ported ssdd to GTK4.

It's still the same clean and quick app you're used to, just with a fresh, new look.

Enjoy!

@kekePower kekePower released this 10 Aug 07:41

This is a breaking change to the config file going from just listing the commands to using KEY=VALUE.
You may have to delete your current $HOME/.config/ssdd/config file.

Enjoy!

ssdd v1.5 released

Version 1.5 comes with tiny, but important changes.

  • Renamed About button to Settings.
  • You can now configure the command for each of the buttons.
  • The About dialog is now in its own tab next to Settings.
  • PREFIX in the Makefile is now configurable. README.md is updated to reflect this change.

This means that you can now configure the command used for every button and if you're using a system without SystemD, you are now free to use other commands. I'm using Mageia Linux and it uses SystemD, hence the default in the first few releases.

Enjoy!

Made a few adjustments to the buttons. There was a space between the rows of buttons that I didn't like, so I removed it. I also added a bit of space within the buttons.

Enjoy!

- Added `resources.c` and `resources.h` to the `.gitignore` file.
- Modified the `execute_command` function to use `g_spawn_command_line_async` for asynchronous command execution.
- Updated the `show_confirmation_dialog` function to display a GTK dialog with a warning icon and improved layout.
- Added a margin to the buttons in the `create_button` function for better spacing.
- Improved error handling for loading the window icon in the `activate` function.
- Updated README.md with more information about manually compiling ssdd

Enjoy!
