A fix for the menu bar menu on macOS 26.

Fixed

  • The menu closed when you hovered over a submenu. On macOS 26, the first time you opened Cafe's menu after launching it, hovering over or clicking Timer, While an app is open or Settings closed the whole menu. It now stays open.
  • An open menu could close while a timer was running. The countdown at the top of the menu now updates in place instead of rebuilding the menu every minute.

Windows is unchanged apart from the updated tray library.

Download

macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) Cafe.dmg, or brew install --cask kidchenko/tap/cafe (brew upgrade --cask cafe if you have it)
Windows installer Cafe-Setup.exe
Windows portable cafe-0.0.2-x64.exe, no install needed

Cafe isn't signed yet. The first time you open it, macOS asks you to allow it in System Settings > Privacy & Security (Homebrew does this for you), and Windows SmartScreen asks you to click More info, then Run anyway.

The first release of Cafe: a coffee cup in your tray or menu bar that keeps your computer awake.

Download

macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) Cafe.dmg, or brew install --cask kidchenko/tap/cafe
Windows installer Cafe-Setup.exe
Windows portable cafe-0.0.1-x64.exe, no install needed

Windows 10 or later, macOS 11 or later.

First launch. Cafe isn't signed yet, so your system will ask before opening it once:

  • macOS: move Cafe to Applications, then go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Homebrew does this for you.
  • Windows: when SmartScreen appears, click More info, then Run anyway.

What's in it

  • Keep awake until you turn it off, for a set time, or until a time of day, with the screen on too if you want.
  • Keep awake while an app is open. Pick from the apps you have open, or choose one with the file picker.
  • Stops on its own when the battery runs low (20% by default).
  • Notifications when a timer ends or a low battery stops Cafe.
  • Run at login, and a coffee fact a day in the menu.
  • On Windows, left-click the cup to switch it on or off. Opening Cafe again does the same on both systems.

Cafe never changes your power settings. It asks the OS to stay awake for now, and that request goes away as soon as Cafe stops. More in the README and on the website.
