HOI4 Mod Setup 0.8.0

Download the installer for your computer:

Windows uses the .exe installer. On macOS, open the .dmg and move the app to Applications. On Linux x64, make the .AppImage executable and run it, or install the .deb with your Debian/Ubuntu package manager.

Changes

  • Fill the per-mod settings of the package's asset and gfx tools from the mod's name and script prefix: project_label and id_prefix in hoi4-feature-assets/tools/project_settings.json, and shared_registry_prefix in .tools/gfx/settings.json, instead of leaving the source's generic "HOI4" values. The files keep their layout; a missing prefix leaves its value alone. The web edition gets the same adaptation.
  • Prepare the package's development tools automatically. When an install, update, or repair leaves .tools/check.py in the project, the review lists one more setup check and, after the files are applied, the app runs the package's own python -B .tools/check.py setup --save-game-dir <your game folder>: it installs the Python packages the checks need, records the game folder in a gitignored settings file, makes sure the ignore entries exist, regenerates the agent projections, and checks the project. A fresh install no longer fails the generators check because of a stale agent map. The step never fails the installation: the Ready screen shows a Development tools line and the tool's own message when something is missing (for example Python), and Repair runs it again.
  • Update CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md without asking when you never edited them, and merge the new template into them when you added your own rules. An update used to ask about both files every time the instruction template changed, offering only Keep, Replace, Rename, or Skip, so a mod with custom rules could not take a new section without losing them. The update now rebuilds what the old template adapted to and merges three ways; an edited file is still a reviewed conflict and now offers Merge.
  • Let a hosted setup analysis take up to five minutes instead of two. The free model reasons before it answers and needs longer than two minutes on a large installed project, which showed as "The selected provider is temporarily unavailable" on every attempt of an update or repair review.

Choose a main image provider and optional alternatives; ChatGPT through GPTImage is the default. Coding clients remain independent of the setup assistant. Change image and live-testing providers later in Update and repair.

Optional live testing offers Clausewitz MCP by smerss, which requires native Linux HOI4 1.19.2 and manual Linux game/server setup. Follow the Linux setup guide; registration alone does not verify gameplay. Experimental HOI4 Live Tools is slower and not fully tested; its current upstream package supports Windows only, and the macOS scaffold is incomplete.

See the README and Quickstart for provider choices and setup steps.

The Windows installer uses the community certificate named ChaosX; Windows may show a publisher or reputation warning.

Community macOS packages use ad-hoc signing and are not Apple-notarized; macOS may block the first launch.

Review the installation warning guidance and release signing details before deciding whether to open a blocked installer.
