More campaign settings you can set without the Google Ads UI, a guard against Google's auto-apply, and a fix for Reddit conversion campaigns.
Location option (#115, thanks @xgp)
draft_campaign and update_campaign take location_option (PRESENCE, PRESENCE_OR_INTEREST, SEARCH_INTEREST) and negative_location_option (PRESENCE, PRESENCE_OR_INTEREST).
PRESENCE_OR_INTERESTis Google's default. With it, a campaign targeting a dozen countries also reaches people elsewhere who merely search about them.- Leaving a parameter empty keeps the current setting.
- The update preview shows old → new and warns when a change widens reach. For the location option that is anything but
PRESENCE. For the exclusions it isPRESENCE, because then they only keep out people physically in the excluded places.
Campaign URL options (#116, thanks @xgp)
tracking_url_template, final_url_suffix and url_custom_parameters on both tools.
- Omitting a field leaves it unchanged. An empty value clears it, and the preview shows the removal.
- AdLoop checks that the template contains
{lpurl}or one of its variants, and that custom parameter keys are alphanumeric, at most 8 of them. Google's validate-only dry run catches the rest. - The preview shows
example_click, one of the campaign's final URLs with the template applied. It is approximate, because templates on ad groups, ads or keywords override the campaign's.
Auto-apply recommendations: read and pause (#118, #119, thanks @xgp)
- Read:
get_recommendation_subscriptionslists the recommendation types Google applies on its own. Its insights flag any that are on, since those change the account without a preview. - Pause:
draft_recommendation_subscriptionsturns them off, through the usual preview and validate-only dry run. - No switching back on: AdLoop can't turn auto-apply back on. That stays a decision for the Google Ads UI.
Reddit: ad groups in conversion campaigns (#112, reported by @h2non)
Reddit refuses an ad group in a CONVERSIONS campaign without a conversion attribution window. It only says so on the real apply, because Reddit has no test mode, so the dry run passed and the apply failed.
- New parameter:
draft_reddit_ad_grouptakesview_through_conversion_type:SEVEN_DAY_CLICKS, orSEVEN_DAY_CLICKS_ONE_DAY_VIEW, which also counts conversions within a day of a view. - Default: for CONVERSIONS and CATALOG_SALES campaigns it defaults to Reddit's default,
SEVEN_DAY_CLICKS_ONE_DAY_VIEW, and the preview says so. - CBO campaigns: under campaign budget optimization the ad group inherits the campaign's window, and a different one is refused at draft time. CBO campaigns can set the window when they're created; it can't change afterwards.
- Reads and estimates: the estimate tool sends the same window, and the campaign and ad group reads show it.
