Kitbag 0.5.1
Kitbag 0.5.1: one iPhone app that holds a student's everyday tools (timetable, GPA, calendar, notes, weather) behind a Today screen, with Headway 0.7.5 and Mantissa 0.26.0 running inside it. iPhone, iOS 17 or later.
Download Kitbag-0.5.1-unsigned.ipa and sign it yourself. It is unsigned on purpose: install it with a sideloading tool that signs with your own Apple ID (for example AltStore or Sideloadly). Check the file first:
shasum -a 256 -c Kitbag-0.5.1-unsigned.ipa.sha256
With a free Apple ID such tools are widely reported to allow an app for 7 days (then it must be signed again) and three apps at a time; that comes from community reports, so check the tool's page. Kitbag's widgets and its keychain need entitlements (an App Group, a keychain group) that an unsigned file does not carry; a tool that does not add them leaves the widgets empty. The build-from-source route is in the README. There is no App Store version.
What is new in 0.5.1
- The bundled Headway is updated to 0.7.5 and the bundled Mantissa to 0.26.0. What changed in each is in its own repository's releases.
- Headway's notifications keep the picture they carry. Since Headway 0.7 a late or early notification has a picture of its own (the route's colour and the minutes); Kitbag now leaves such a notification as it is. A Headway notification with no picture still gets Headway's icon.
- A phone is found by the update script without a name having to be set when only one iPhone is paired (this matters only to someone who builds Kitbag from source).
What it has
- Today: the date pinned at the top, the weather, the class that is on or comes next, the day's classes, what is due soon and pinned notes. Five looks (Classic, Glass, Bento, Editorial, Compact) that go with any of five colour themes.
- Timetable: terms, the week as an A4 page you can pinch to zoom, a PDF export, courses with credits and grades.
- GPA: per term and cumulative, your own grading systems, what-if and target calculators, and an import of a university grade list (PDF).
- Calendar: deadlines with as many reminders as you like and Done and Snooze buttons on the notification, an
.icsimport and export, and subscriptions to online calendars by their address. - Notes: Markdown with photos and files, search and pins.
- Weather: a chart you drag along, an hourly table and the day's figures, from Open-Meteo.
- Data usage: what Kitbag downloads, measured, and how often the weather and your calendars update on Wi-Fi and on mobile data.
- Widgets, a backup file and an automatic backup folder, English and Japanese.
- Headway (live Madison bus map) and Mantissa (offline exact calculator) run inside it from their own repositories, unchanged.
Notes
- The punctuality percentages in Headway rest on 20 days of the City of Madison's live feeds recorded between 3 and 25 October 2026 (735,887 observations; nothing was recorded on 9, 10 and 11 October, and several other days, the last one among them, were recorded only in part), so they are rough.
- The weather needs a network and uses Open-Meteo's free, non-commercial API; place search and calendar subscriptions also use the network.
PRIVACY.mdlists every address; there is no account, no analytics and no server of ours. - Licences are in the app (Settings > About > Licences) and in
THIRD_PARTY.md.
Kitbag 0.5.0
Kitbag 0.5.0: one iPhone app that holds a student's everyday tools (timetable, GPA, calendar, notes, weather) behind a Today screen, with Headway 0.6.7 and Mantissa 0.25.0 running inside it. iPhone, iOS 17 or later.
Download Kitbag-0.5.0-unsigned.ipa and sign it yourself. It is unsigned on purpose: install it with a sideloading tool that signs with your own Apple ID (for example AltStore or Sideloadly). Check the file first:
shasum -a 256 -c Kitbag-0.5.0-unsigned.ipa.sha256
With a free Apple ID such tools are widely reported to allow an app for 7 days (then it must be signed again) and three apps at a time; that comes from community reports, so check the tool's page. Kitbag's widgets and its keychain need entitlements (an App Group, a keychain group) that an unsigned file does not carry; a tool that does not add them leaves the widgets empty. The build-from-source route is in the README. There is no App Store version.
What is new in 0.5.0
- The bundled Mantissa is updated to a newer version (0.25.0).
- Every grade scale is yours. You can change or delete any of them, and the ones to start from are only copied when you add one, named by the grades they use. A scale that a term or the GPA screen still uses cannot be deleted. The scales and grades that 0.4.2 saved carry over: a test on data in 0.4.2's format checks that the GPA of every term and the cumulative GPA come out the same.
- The grade picker of a course now offers the grades of its own term's scale (it used the scale chosen for the whole GPA screen).
- Weather: a pull to refresh no longer fails when the screen redraws while it runs; with updates set to manual and no forecast kept yet, the screen says so and offers "Update now" instead of a spinner that never ends; the note about manual updates names Wi-Fi or mobile data correctly; a place search that could not reach the service says so; asking for your location is no longer started twice at once.
- The backup folder: when the system says its saved bookmark is getting old, Kitbag renews it, so automatic backups keep working.
- The release file no longer carries the paths of the machine that built it.

- The punctuality percentages in Headway rest on 13 days of the City of Madison's live feeds (3 to 18 October 2026, with 8 to 12 October missing because the recording stopped), so they are rough.
- The weather needs a network and uses Open-Meteo's free, non-commercial API; place search and calendar subscriptions also use the network.
