Schema::defaultStringLength(191)was required in a service provider for old database versions. This has been fixed in MariaDB 10.2.2 and MySQL 5.7.7.Laravel already requires MariaDB 10.3+ and MySQL 5.7 will be discontinued by the end of October 2023, some months before the next major Laravel release, so I removed the relevant part from the docs.
