What options did you select for the laravel new? Any starter kit? I know that if you choose no starter kit, the sqlite database is automatically created. If it is not automatically created, try running touch database/database.sqlite to create the database file and it should solve your issue.

As I couldn't find any string containing the error message: could not find driver on Laravel code, I just tested with a PDO driver I don't have installed.

That error message is from an exception thrown by PHP when a PDO driver is not installed.

In my case, I tested with the sqlsrv driver, and got this similar message:

could not find driver (Connection: sqlsrv, SQL: select top 1 * from [sessions] where [id] = 9yY5odFK9IXY2rHbLNe7OgMYc7PFfWRamVWJVci6)

This means your PHP installation is missing the pdo_sqlite extension.

That is very odd, as the SQLite extension has been built-in into the PHP binary since at least PHP 7.4. I am not sure about the exact version it started to be bundled, but the reference to PHP 7.4 already having it is on PHP docs:

You either:

• Have a PHP binary compiled explicitly with either the --without-pdo-sqlite or the --without-sqlite3 flags
• Are missing the required libsqlite library for it to run

You can verify if you are missing the pdo_sqlite extension by running:

php -m

And verifying if the list of extensions includes, or not, the pdo_sqlite extension.

Either way, the pdo_sqlite extension is required to use the sqlite database driver, which is the default.

You can either install the missing extension, or choose a different database driver.

Well, I understand your frustration, but the driver used by default is based on the assumption a user would have a standard PHP version available with all the common built-in extensions.

I notice that you're using Windows (from the error path). Some PHP build on Windows doesn't enable pdo_sqlite by default. You should enable it (or any extensions required by framework) first.
