Lazy 0.8.1. Linux: the .deb or the tarball (run ./install.sh). macOS: open the .dmg, drag Lazy to Applications, and if macOS says it cannot verify Lazy, choose Open Anyway in System Settings, Privacy and Security (on macOS 14 or earlier, right-click it and choose Open); the app is not notarized unless signing secrets were set. Windows: run the Setup .exe (SmartScreen says unknown publisher: More info, Run anyway) or unpack the .zip. Lazy's first screen asks for your server's address and an invitation code. Lazy 0.5.0
Lazy is a native desktop chat app for a self-hosted Lazy server: channels, direct and group messages, threads, search, files, custom emoji, several workspaces, and notifications. This is the first release you can install.
Install
| Your computer | Download | How |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) | Lazy-Setup-0.5.0-windows-x64.exe |
Run it. It installs for you alone, with no administrator. If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway. lazy-0.5.0-windows-x64.zip is a portable copy. |
| macOS 11 or later (Apple silicon and Intel) | Lazy-0.5.0-macos-universal.dmg |
Open it and drag Lazy to Applications. If macOS says it cannot verify Lazy, open System Settings, Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway (macOS 14 or earlier: right-click Lazy, choose Open, then Open). |
| Linux (64-bit Intel or AMD) | lazy-chat_0.5.0_amd64.deb or lazy-0.5.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz |
Debian and Ubuntu: sudo apt install ./lazy-chat_0.5.0_amd64.deb. Anything else: unpack the tarball and run ./install.sh (--system for everyone, --uninstall to remove). Needs a Vulkan driver and a keyring such as GNOME Keyring or KWallet. |
The first time Lazy starts, the sign-in screen has a Server row: enter your team's server address, choose Create account, and register with the invitation code you were given. No server yet? See Run your own server.
Good to know
- The installers are not code-signed yet, which is why Windows and macOS ask you to confirm once.
SHA256SUMSlists a checksum for every file. - Desktop notifications work on Linux only in this release. On macOS and Windows you get unread counts and the title badge, but no system notifications.
- The Windows and macOS builds are new. They are built from the same code as Linux on GitHub's own runners, but had not been run on those systems before this release. The Linux package was installed on a clean Ubuntu during the build and every library it needs resolved. Input methods, screen readers, file dialogs, and unusual display scales have not been checked anywhere yet.
- Found something that looks or behaves wrong? Open an issue and paste the report from Menu, Help, Diagnostics… (it holds no passwords or message text; it does list folder paths).
