Ribbon 3.21
- A scheduled session carries on through a restart, such as an update, a crash or a force-quit, instead of starting over. The whole day stays one session, with one score at the end.
- A session cut off by a restart is saved up to the last activity Ribbon recorded, instead of as zero minutes. Sessions already saved as zero minutes are repaired the same way.
Ribbon 3.20
- Move the orb anywhere. Drag it to any spot on your screen. Ribbon remembers where you leave it, and its label and controls open on whichever side has room. Reset Orb Position, in the orb's right-click menu, the menu bar or Settings › General, puts it back in the corner.
- Hide the orb whenever you want. Press ⌃⌥⌘O, use Hide Orb in the menu bar, right-click the orb, or turn off Show the orb in Settings › General. A session keeps running while it's hidden: blocking goes on and nudges are still spoken, but nothing pops up. Opening the session controls brings the orb back while they're open.
Ribbon 3.19
- The emergency pass is out of the way during a session. It's no longer on the orb's controls, the session card on Today or the Focus sessions page. To use it, open Settings › Emergency pass, click End session…, confirm, give a reason, and hold for 5 seconds.
- Buttons you can't use right now look faded.
Ribbon 3.18
- Outlined buttons, like Edit, Cancel, Delete and Rewrite, and the message box no longer show thin stray lines at their ends.
- A session type that blocks distracting apps and sites now says "Blocks distracting apps and sites" instead of "no distractions".
Ribbon 3.17
- The ruthless orb is brutal now. It roasts you with your whole day: the first thing you opened, your minutes on each app and site, your productivity score, your longest distraction, anything distracting before 6am, earlier sessions and how many nudges they took, and the reasons you gave for emergency passes. It insults you, swears, and gets nastier every time you ignore it, until it's screaming by the fifth nudge. Waving it off counts double. It never touches self-harm, slurs or threats.
- Check-ins are just as brutal when the orb is set to Ruthless.
- Roast me. With Ruthless on, the sample button in Settings › AI writes a real roast from your day, one level harsher each time you click.
- Fixed: the orb's escalation started over every time you waved it off, so it rarely got past its first line.
Ribbon 3.16
- A new voice for the orb. Add a Gemini API key in Settings › AI and the orb speaks with Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS instead of the macOS voice. Its own voice is a cold, bone-dry English butler, made in your Google project the first time it's used. You can pick any of Gemini's 30 built-in voices instead, and play a sample.
- Each line is performed differently. The AI that writes what the orb says also decides how to say it, like "a weary sigh, then clipped and icy", and can add a sigh or a pause.
- How the orb talks to you. Under Settings › AI, choose Friendly (playful, never mean) or Ruthless: it mocks the distraction, holds you to your goal and gets colder each time you ignore it. It goes after what you're doing, never who you are. Check-in notifications follow the same choice.
- With a Gemini key, what the orb says aloud is sent to Google to be turned into speech.
Ribbon 3.15
- Sites are blocked in the Chrome you're using even when another copy of Chrome is running. Tools that test or record web pages can start their own copy, and Ribbon was reading that copy's page instead of yours, so nothing in your Chrome got blocked.
- If Ribbon can't see which site is open in your browser during a session, the orb now says so, instead of letting every site through without a word. If Ribbon's permission to control the browser is off, it says where to turn it back on, and picks it up again without a restart.
Ribbon 3.14
- The running session on Today. While a focus session is on, the top of Today shows its session type and task, a live countdown with how much of this focus part or break is done, and for a scheduled session, how much of the whole day's session is done and left.
- Pause, resume, end or end a break from there too, whenever the session allows it. A scheduled session offers only your emergency pass. Pausing, ending and the pass take the same hold and reason as at the orb.
Ribbon 3.13
- Restarting Ribbon to finish an update, or after saving an API key, now reopens the dashboard so you can see it's back. Before, Ribbon came back in the menu bar only, which looked like it had closed for good.
Ribbon 3.12
- During a focus session, Ribbon still can't be quit, but it no longer stops your Mac from logging out, restarting or shutting down. A scheduled session picks up again after you log back in.
- An update waits until a scheduled session is over before it restarts Ribbon, breaks included.
