Amberwave 0.9.1-beta.5 – Windows server, Android app
Amberwave 0.9.1-beta.5 – Windows server, Android app
Amberwave now runs on Windows without Docker and comes as an app for Android – and you can move your whole library between all variants.
Windows server – Amberwave-Windows-Server-0.9.1-beta.5.exe (test build)
- The complete server natively on Windows: a program in the notification area (like Plex) starts the bundled database, web server, ffmpeg and remote access.
- Install without admin rights, pick your music folder (network drives work too), set up in the browser.
- Updates from the notification area: once a day it looks for a newer version and installs it on request.
- Every build is tested automatically on a Windows machine (setup, scan, streaming, clean shutdown, restart).
Android app – Amberwave-Android-0.9.1-beta.5.apk (test build, Android 10 or newer)
- Offline for real: saved music is stored as files in the app's own storage – Android doesn't clear it. Downloads continue in the background even with the app closed, optionally on Wi-Fi only. Covers are saved too.
- Without network the app starts straight into "On this device", and it switches to the offline view and back by itself when the network or server goes away or returns.
- Background playback with notification, lock screen, headphone and Bluetooth buttons; pauses for calls and when headphones are unplugged.
- Finds your server on the Wi-Fi by itself – with its public address, so it works on the go too.
- Foldables: book and laptop posture are recognised, also with rotation lock on.
- "Download file" in the ⋮ menu saves the actual file to Music/Amberwave (where the admin allows downloads).
- Updates come from GitHub; the app asks before installing.
- Install: allow your browser or file manager to "install unknown apps" once, then open the APK. Not in the Play Store yet.
Move to another server
- Settings › Backup › "Create migration package" packs library, accounts, playlists, history, settings and optionally covers into one password-protected file. On the new server choose "Take over from another installation" during setup – Docker stack, all-in-one and Windows in any direction.
Offline quality per device
- New under Settings › Offline on devices: the admin sets the highest quality devices may save (off, Opus 128/160/256 or original) and whether all accounts may download actual files. Each device picks its own quality up to that limit under Settings › Playback.
Also
- Player: title and artist always on one line – long names scroll gently, the controls no longer jump in height.
- Web app: on a Windows PC the profile menu offers the matching Windows client, on an Android phone the Android app.
- Windows client: "New version – download" fetches the installer directly.
- Narrow artist pages without a biography no longer show a large empty area; initials in profile pictures are centred.
Update: Compose and all-in-one – pull the new image and restart. Windows client and server: run the new installer over the old version. Android: install the new APK over the old one (or let the app update itself from now on).

Amberwave 0.9.1-beta.4 – all-in-one image
Amberwave 0.9.1-beta.4 – all-in-one image
One container instead of a stack: the new all-in-one image brings Amberwave, its database and remote access in a single container – the first step towards the Unraid store.
All-in-one image – ghcr.io/lfrank95/amberwave-aio:beta
- Amberwave, MariaDB 11.8 LTS and cloudflared in one container. No second database container, no Compose stack.
- One folder for everything that must survive updates:
/appdata(database, covers, backups), plus your music at/musik. - Admin account from the template: set a user name and password and the account exists on the first start. Both fields are only needed once – clear them afterwards, the account keeps working. Without them the usual setup page asks.
- Setup assistant after the first login: region, folder check (including whether Amberwave may write to your music), server name and the first scan. Skippable, and it can be opened again under Settings › Region.
- Safe defaults: the database runs as your PUID/PGID (no root-owned files in appdata), only listens inside the container, and shuts down cleanly when the container stops.
- Remote access via Cloudflare Tunnel starts by itself once you set it up in the app.
- Every release builds and tests the image automatically; it is rebuilt monthly for security updates.
Unraid
- A ready-made template is in the repository (
templates/amberwave.xml); Community Applications will follow.
Also
- Setup: fixed a session mix-up that could make the last setup step fail with "Security check failed".
- The Compose variant (
ghcr.io/lfrank95/amberwave:betawith its own MariaDB container) works exactly as before.
Update: Compose – pull the new image and restart the stack. Windows: run the new installer over the old version (only the version number changed).

Amberwave 0.9.1-beta.3
This beta bundles two rounds of work: large-library robustness (from beta.2, which was never published on its own) and a big step for the effects.
Effects
- Saturation focus for AmberGlow, AmberIron and AmberSilk: a small button next to HQ and Δ opens a curve with five draggable points over the live spectrum. Raise a point and the effect saturates more there – an EQ in front of the effect, the exact opposite behind it, so the tone stays neutral and only the distortion moves. "De-emphasis" 0–100 % sets how much of the boost is taken back.
- Drive up to 150 % on all three effects – overdo it on purpose.
- AmberSilk: clean highs. The tape curve now always runs at 8× oversampling. Aliasing at high drive dropped from −46 dB to −71 dB (worst case) and below −90 dB in typical settings.
- Effects in the browser now run as WebAssembly – the same C code as the Windows client, faster than before.
Downloads with Tidarr
- Tested end to end against an emulated Tidarr: albums get their real name instead of the Tidal ID, files are only copied once Tidarr has finished writing, imports are atomic (no half albums after a restart), and jobs waiting in the queue are no longer cancelled after 30 minutes.
Security
- Two independent testers attacked the app (anonymous from the internet and as a normal family member): no way in, no admin rights for normal users. Fixed: password reset and notification mails, login lockout of real users, a reverse proxy confirmation in the admin overview, own reverb files can't overwrite other users' files.
- Setup from the home network works without a code again – the code is only asked for via proxy, tunnel or the internet.
Large libraries and updates
- Tested on MariaDB with 100,000 tracks: lists, album pages and search answer in 10–200 ms.
- Database updates run at container start, never twice in parallel, and keep one clean backup from before the update.
- Windows client: tracks over 48 MB (hi-res, long works) are buffered on disk instead of in RAM.
- Fixed: removing a track from a playlist could also remove it from a playlist you opened earlier.
Update: pull the new image (ghcr.io/lfrank95/amberwave:beta) and restart the stack – the database is backed up automatically. Windows: run the new installer over the old version.

Amberwave 0.9.1-beta.1 – first public beta
First public beta of Amberwave – a self-hosted music server for your family's collection, with a bit-perfect Windows client.
Server (Docker)
docker compose pull && docker compose up -d
Image: ghcr.io/lfrank95/amberwave:beta (amd64). Setup guide for Docker, Unraid and Synology: see the README.
Windows client
Download Amberwave-Windows-Client-0.9.1-beta.1.exe below. Installs just for you, no admin rights needed.
It is not code-signed yet: on first start click More info → Run anyway in the SmartScreen dialog.
Pro features – free during the beta
DSP effects (tube, transformer, tape, room/5.1 upmix, EQ), VST3 plug-in support, ASIO output and the output routing
matrix with per-channel EQ are planned as paid Pro features later – during the beta they are free for everyone.
Please note
- This is a beta – back up your music first. Amberwave only reads your music by default.
- Usenet downloads are off by default; VST3 in the Windows client is experimental.
- Bugs → issues · Questions and ideas → r/Amberwave
