No more files preview on smartphone DCIM storage (regression since LM 21 update)

Issue
When pictures are on a smartphone, impossible to have a preview. It was working with LM 20.3 but it doesn't work anymore since upgrade to LM 21.

Steps to reproduce

Plug a smartphone and activate "File transfer" -> Nemo is opening but preview of files doesn't work:

Preview of files should work.

It works fine if I connect my mobile via USB.
Remember that thumbnailing is selectable at the folder level and can be either on or off.

Even if I check it, no preview:

If I check it and after, I reload with F5, preview becomes unchecked in the menu, it's strange. In DCIM folder, it's always unchecked by default too.

My bad, it works with USB sticks but not with smartphone. I will modify the title of this bug report.

my guess is yes. I just stumbled accross this problem and after some testing I can confirm this behaviour.

I have whitespaces in my path (%20 in the path cause of german localisation of the internal storage) and when I open the DCIM folder by opening every folder in the structure, I don't see thumbnails. Just like in the screenshots above.
But if I use the list view and fold down to the DCIM folder, I see thumbnails.
If I then open the folder and Nemo has to use a path with %20 in the address bar, no thumbnail is shown.

I haven't really any software-dev skills, but to quote myself from #3291:

despite this being reported as Nemo, I spent quite a bit of time testing this very issue today and can confirm that this regression applies to Mint Xfce／Thunar as well, but doesn't seem to be directly tied to the Thunar version since it works on Mint 20.3 Xfce with Thunar 4.16.8 but doesn't work on Xubuntu 21.10 with the very same Thunar 4.16.8

I'm wondering if something broke upstream between Xubuntu 20.10 (where it worked) and Xubuntu 21.04 (where it didn't work)...
