[BUG] [emerg] "stream" directive is not allowed here in /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf:3

Current Behavior

When updating to commit 362205c, I found that page load attempts would get an 502 Gateway error after today's rebase to Alpine 3.17.

The following error will fill the logs:
nginx: [emerg] "stream" directive is not allowed here in /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf:3

Expected Behavior

The website should load.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Update to today's commit 362205c using unRAID 6.11.5
2. Observe error 'nginx: [emerg] "stream" directive is not allowed here in /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf:3' and pages not load

The fix (at least temporary) is to run:
mv -v /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf /etc/nginx/stream.d/

According to your log, you have config files that need to be updated

Deleted and rebuilt the Docker containers - everything seems okay now. Potentially we can close this unless it deserves an investigation.

Just for the record, I had a cronjob update my nginx container to the same state overnight and the same error occurred for me.

I commented out the line include /etc/nginx/conf.d/*.conf; in the main configuration file /config/nginx/nginx.conf as the path /etc/nginx/conf.d/ is not available in my persistent storage for the container and stream.conf is the only file in that directory anyway.

Update: Had a major update of nginx.conf to do! My ancient version is now much more up-to-date and everything works without the workaround in the paragraph above.

For me, deleting and rebuilding the docker didn't fix it.
But this did the trick :
mv -v /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf /etc/nginx/stream.d/

You need to update your conf files as the log tells you to

/config/nginx/site-confs/default.conf
/config/nginx/nginx.conf

With a list of confs that have been changed on the shipped image compared to what you're currently running. If your running confs are super out of date you can run into issues when updating the container.
