First public release of claude-desktop-gateway: run Claude Desktop on OpenRouter models or a ChatGPT Codex OAuth backend via a local third-party inference gateway, using Claude Desktop's supported deploymentMode: "3p" mode — no patching, no reverse-engineered protocol, no Anthropic API key required.

Downloads

Pick the installer for your OS below — no Node.js or terminal required:

  • Linux — Claude-OpenRouter-Gateway-0.1.0.AppImage
  • macOS — Claude-OpenRouter-Gateway-0.1.0-arm64.dmg (Apple Silicon only for this release)
  • Windows — Claude-OpenRouter-Gateway-Setup-0.1.0.exe

These builds aren't code-signed, so macOS will show an "unidentified developer" warning and Windows SmartScreen may warn on first run — both expected for an unsigned open-source build.

Highlights

  • OpenRouter gateway — route Claude Desktop to any OpenRouter model (GPT, Gemini, Llama, DeepSeek, Grok, and more).
  • Codex OAuth gateway — route Claude Desktop to GPT-5-class models via the ChatGPT Codex backend, using existing Codex CLI / Hermes OAuth tokens.
  • One-command configure / restore — npm run configure points Claude Desktop at the gateway; npm run restore switches it back to official, Anthropic-hosted mode at any time, including from the tray app.
  • Electron tray app — sign-in, start/stop, configure, and restore from a GUI; no terminal required.
  • CLI-first — the gateways and scripts have zero runtime dependencies; only the desktop app needs Electron.

See the README for setup instructions and the CLI quickstart if you'd rather run from source.
