Mains is fully open source, now with Bridge.
0.20 introduces Bridge, a beta that keeps your Atlas pages and chats in step.
📖 Full changelog: Mains 0.20: Mains is fully open source, now with Bridge
Sign in to Bridge
- Sign in. Open Settings → Bridge and sign in with GitHub or your email. Name the device, and choose whether to include the chats and Atlas pages already on it.
- End-to-end encrypted. Bridge encrypts your pages, chats, and files on your device before they leave. Only your devices hold the key.
- Beta access. After you sign in, choose Activate beta if your account has access. That starts 30 days of access, and Settings shows when it ends. Sync begins once this device is approved.
- Approve a new device. A new device shows a code and waits. On a device that's already signed in, enter that code and choose Approve device, or decline it if the codes differ.
- Check the account fingerprint. On the new device, enter the fingerprint shown on one that's already in, then choose Verify and start sync. Sync stays paused until the keys match.
- No other device nearby? Enter your recovery code instead. Choose Show setup code the first time and save it in a password manager. New recovery code replaces it, and the old one stops working. If you lose every device and the code, nobody can unlock your data, including us.
- Devices lists every device on the account. Revoke one and it loses sync immediately; anything saved on it stays there.
Pick up an Atlas page
- Keep writing anywhere. Start a page on one device and keep writing it on another.
- Files come along. Images, documents, and attachments up to 50 MB sync and download when you open them. Larger files stay on the device that made them, and a file from another device is labeled with that device's name.
- No lost edits. If two devices change the same page at the same time, Mains keeps both and says Edited on two devices at the same time. Choose View the other version, then Keep current version or Use the other version. The one you leave behind stays in the page's history.
Read a chat from another device
- In your sidebar. Chats from your other devices show up with the device's name and whether it's online. Filter chats has a Sources menu for Local, Bridge, or both, and workspaces from another device appear in the same project, marked with Bridge.
- Watch it run. Those chats keep running on the device that started them, and the composer says Read-only · runs on that device. While the agent works and that device is online, you can watch the turn live.
- Take over. Continue with remote control connects you to that device, so you can take the conversation from there. If Bridge is offline, you still have the copy that already arrived.
- Clone to this device. A repository that exists only on another device can be brought here with its address filled in, and the clone runs in the background.
You decide what leaves
- Existing history is your call. Include existing history and Atlas is on when you sign in. Turn it off to keep what's already here on this device, and use Sync existing history to add it later.
- Per-project sync. Project sync lists each project with its workspaces and chats. Turn one off and its new chats and changes stay on this device.
- Works offline. Changes wait on this device, and Settings → Bridge shows how many are waiting, when they last synced, and when you're offline. They catch up on their own once you're back.
- 1 GB of storage. When storage is full, or beta access has ended, you can still read, download, and delete what already synced. New changes wait on this device until there's room or access is active again. Agent sign-ins stay on the device where you set them up.
Open source, end to end
All of Mains is open source under the MIT license: the desktop app, Mains for iPhone, the server, and now the Bridge hub. You can read exactly how Bridge encrypts and syncs your data, and check what it can and can't see for yourself.
Read more about how Bridge works, and what it can and can't see, on the Bridge page.
