Uber Notebook 1.1.4

Text fields that leave the clipboard alone while Uber Notebook's window is closed.

Security

  • Every text field in Uber Notebook is editable only while its window shows. Uber Notebook stays loaded in the Omarchy shell after its window closes, and Qt has an editable field read the clipboard each time it changes, so a huge or endless clipboard could hold up the shell with no paste at all; a closed window's fields are read-only, and Qt doesn't read it for them (found by the Omarchy plugin marketplace's review).

Uber Notebook 1.1.3

@marcho78 marcho78 released this 14 Oct 18:44

Release notes in the app, a shorter README, and fixes from the first issue and pull requests.

Added

  • Settings → What's new: every release's notes, newest first, the latest open. It reads the notes that come with the app, so it works offline.
  • After an update, the sidebar says once which version you're on, with What's new.

Changed

  • A shorter README. Everything in detail is in docs/guide.md, the security details in SECURITY.md, how it works in docs/how-it-works.md, and this changelog is reorganized.

Fixed

  • The window opens without qt6-webengine installed; only a PDF's pages don't show then (#1, reported by @UnderStackDev).
  • Agents get long answers in full: blocks or read on a big page used to be cut off. A long answer now comes as a file to read.
  • Changing a big open page's title, icon or cover no longer answers "omarchy-shell is not responding", and you stay where you were on the page.
  • Markdown export keeps text that looks like a heading or a list item as text, a code block with a fence line inside as one block, and a heading with a line break as one heading (#3, thanks @nixfred).
  • Calendar import keeps an event's notes when it has an alert, and backslashes in notes (contacts' too); a middle name goes after the given name; a 29 February with no year is the next one (#4, thanks @nixfred).
  • #constructor and similar names can't break tags or notebook ids (#5, thanks @nixfred).
  • Importing a folder that's hidden, or inside a hidden one, finds its files; a window rule Hyprland refused is tried again (#6, thanks @nixfred).
  • Imports keep notes between two --- lines at the top, link and footnote lines in code samples, an email body line that starts like a boundary, and a heading or list after an unclosed paragraph (#7, thanks @nixfred).
  • The tests run on a fresh clone (#2, thanks @nixfred).

Security

  • The files helper refuses a file that says it's empty but isn't (like /proc/self/environ), whatever the size limit (#2, thanks @nixfred).

@marcho78 marcho78 released this 10 Oct 05:58

Changed

  • The Uber Notebook skill is yours to turn on. It's off until you turn
on Settings → AI → Enable Uber Notebook skill. On, Claude Code,
Codex and other agents find it in their skill folders, as before; off,
Uber Notebook takes its own links out. The agent panel, and agents
started from Uber Notebook, are given the skill either way. If you had
it before, turn it on again.
  • Choose what to turn on. The first time Uber Notebook opens (and once
after this update) it asks about the skill and reminder details in
notifications. While one's off, a strip over Pages has Turn on and
Dismiss, till you turn it on or off yourself or dismiss it.
  • Reminder details moved to Settings → Notifications → Show reminder
    details in notifications
. Setting a reminder while they're off asks
whether to show them, with Turn on, till you've decided.
  • Updating restarts the shell. The command Uber Notebook gives you is
now omarchy plugin update marcho78.uber-notebook && omarchy restart shell: part of Uber Notebook stays as it was through an update till the
shell starts again. Updating to this version from 1.1.1, run
    omarchy restart shell after it.

Fixed

  • After a plugin was installed, updated or turned on, Uber Notebook went on
as if the shell were stopping: your notes were written without its files
helper, and new files weren't made yours alone. Not any more.

@marcho78 marcho78 released this 10 Oct 02:39

Changed

  • Reminders keep their words to themselves, till you say. A reminder's
or an event alert's notification says only that one is due, and where to
see its words: Settings → Writing → Show what reminders say (off to
start with) puts them in it. A click opens it, as before. Omarchy's own
notifications keep a notification's words for a moment on a command line
as they save it, where another account on the computer could read them:
turn it on only on a computer you don't share. A choice you made already
is kept. The first time in a session you set a reminder while it's off,
a message in the window says so too.

@marcho78 marcho78 released this 10 Oct 01:51

Help, a New page button you can find, your notes kept private and each
profile's kept to itself, and fixes, after the marketplace's review.

Added

  • Help. Ctrl+/ (or F1), or ? at the sidebar's foot: every
key and where it works, everything you can type, every block, every
feature where you meet it, and the commands from a terminal, with a
search over all of it. Only words, as plain text: nothing in it is run
or opened. A test keeps it whole: every / command, every command from
a terminal and every Ctrl key the views handle is in it.
  • New page, easy to find: a wide button of its own at the top of the
sidebar, above Search (it was a small icon beside it).

Fixed

  • Ctrl+Shift+X strikes the selected words through; with blocks picked
    it had cut them.
  • Lines pasted into a locked page's title no longer change it, and
Alt+Shift+↑/↓ no longer moves a locked page's blocks.
  • On a locked page, the window's own keys (Ctrl+N, Ctrl+P,
Ctrl+J, Ctrl+\, Ctrl+,, Help) work from its text again.
  • omarchy-shell uber-notebook set clock 24 works: a value is read as its
    setting takes it.

Security

  • Reminders can keep their words to themselves; every profile kept
private; nothing of one profile in another.
A wide review of the privacy
work found more to close. Omarchy's own notifications keep any
notification's words for a moment on a command line as they save it, so
on a computer you share, Settings → Writing → Show what reminders say
(on by default) can be turned off: a reminder's or an event alert's
notification then says only "A reminder is due" or "An event is
starting" (a click opens it). Every profile's folder is made yours alone as Uber Notebook
starts, not only the one opened; a folder that isn't yours (whatever its
mode), or a drive that refuses the change (a phone), counts as one that
can't be private; a backup is never put back on
a drive that can't keep it private; a file you save to a phone goes
through, with the note; a refused backups folder or Markdown copy is said
in the window and with a notification, not only in Settings; the notice
over a refused profile has Try again; a profile's folder that's gone (a
drive not mounted) isn't made again in its place, nor when it's picked
again; a backup is never put back in a folder that isn't yours. Recordings and
dictation on their way are in your runtime folder, never /tmp. A page's
export copies only the files its pages use. Nothing done for one profile
lands in another: no profile is opened while an audio note records ("Stop
the recording first"); a video's still, an email's attachment, dictation,
a transcript or a louder copy finishing after a switch is never put in
the next profile (it's said, to do again in its own); the open page is
saved the moment another profile starts opening (an edit then, at once),
everything open over the notes (a page's history, an .ics file's events,
an event, a picker, a question, an Undo) closes, and nothing is recorded,
dictated, written out or made louder till it's open; a file picked, a
picture copied in, a link's picture, a meeting's transcript or list, a tag
renamed on many pages, an export, a page's history let go, or a notebook
read for a command, arriving or going on after the switch, isn't put in
(or taken from) the next profile; nor is the page the editor had, People's
search, the last agent prompt for Open in a terminal, or a quick note
given back for another profile (saving it in the open one is asked
    first); a notebook's page is
never saved into another profile's; a conversation in a restored profile
starts a new session (told what was said); the people, calendar and alerts of the one before aren't shown
or sent there; a search's results are gone at once, and one on its way
finds nothing; set folder and set profile do as Settings does
(set profiles is refused); a quick note made right after a switch waits for that profile, and
the quick-note card never loses its words; quick and importNotes
answer whether they did it; each profile keeps its own Inbox. Exports of
many pages save a few files at a time.
  • Your notes' words off command lines, and nothing readable by other
    accounts.
A marketplace review found that what you search for and a
reminder's words went on a program's command line, which every account on
the computer can read, and that notes were written readable by other
    accounts (files 644, folders 755). Now search words go on grep's input;
notifications are sent over the session bus by the files helper, their
words on its input; a link and its host go on curl's and the helper's
    input; Codex's request goes on its input, like Claude Code's and Grok's;
an agent opened in a terminal starts with a line naming a file (600) its
request is in; a backup's list of profiles goes on its input; a meeting's
title stays with its block. And everything Uber Notebook writes is yours
alone (600 and 700): the files helper writes so, every program it runs
writes with umask 077, and a file you save or copy where you choose is
written new beside it and put in its place, checked, so one that was
readable by others is never left so. A profile's notes folder and the
backups' folder from before are made 700 as they're opened (a profile in
your home folder: its own files and folders, not your home folder); the
Markdown copy's own files, pictures and folders from before too. On a
drive that can't keep files private (an exFAT stick, some shares), your
notes, backups and Markdown copy aren't kept, and you're told (a profile
there isn't opened; a strip says so); a file you save there yourself still
is, and you're told. Without XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, its working files go in a
folder of its own in your cache, never /tmp.

Uber Notebook 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@marcho78 marcho78 released this 09 Oct 03:10

The first release.

Uber Notebook puts your notes in the Omarchy shell, one keypress away: Super+N.

  • Pages. Pages made of blocks, the way Notion does it. Type / for any kind of block, drag blocks around, put pages inside pages, color anything.
  • Your agent on the page. Claude Code, Grok or Codex write right on your page (Ctrl+J). Every change is a step you can undo, and a file from outside the agent's folder is asked about first.
  • Paper notebooks. Leather, linen, kraft and composition covers on a desk; ruled, grid, dotted, graph or blank paper; pens, a highlighter and an eraser.
  • Plan your week. A calendar that lives on your pages, habit trackers, agendas, planners and templates.
  • People and voice. Contacts you can name on any page; audio notes and dictation through voxtype, Omarchy's dictation.
  • Plain files you own. Your notes are files on your disk (JSON, with a Markdown copy if you want one), kept apart in profiles, with backups. Nothing is synced to a server.
