NextFlix v1.0.2
NextFlix v1.0.2
This update makes subtitle selection more reliable with the LG webOS remote.
Changes
- Open the subtitle menu with focus on its first option.
- Handle Up/Down through subtitle options explicitly from remote key events, with a visible highlight that does not depend only on browser focus styling.
- Close the menu when navigation leaves its option list or when focus moves elsewhere.
- Keep Back and outside-click dismissal available.
TV testing
On the LG TV, open a movie or series with selectable subtitle tracks, press the Subtitles control, verify the first option is highlighted, move through options with Up/Down, and leave the menu with Left/Right or Back. Confirm the menu closes and track selection still works. Availability and actual subtitle rendering depend on what the stream exposes to webOS.
NextFlix v1.0.1
NextFlix v1.0.1
This update improves catalog readability and remote behavior on LG webOS TVs.
Changes
- Size the Category control to the widest provider category across Live TV, Movies, and Series, and save that width per provider so it stays steady while filtering and changing screens.
- Close an open dropdown when focus leaves it or the user clicks elsewhere, without changing its selected value.
- Hide leading language markers such as
NL |and|NL|in category, channel, and title labels while retaining the original provider data for filtering and playback. - Keep the live preview-to-full-screen transition playing by starting the channel in the full-screen player instead of moving an active video element between containers.
- Keep the subtitle menu open until the user selects a track, presses Back, or clicks outside it.
- Route left-edge focus to the nearest sidebar destination and reserve Switch Profile for Down from the Settings sidebar item.
TV testing
Verify the update on the LG Nano: install over the existing app, confirm saved credentials remain, check category control width while changing language and screens, and test live preview/full-screen playback, subtitle-menu focus, and left/right/down navigation. Physical TV testing remains necessary because webOS video-element and remote-focus behavior differ from a desktop browser.
NextFlix v1.0.0
NextFlix v1.0.0
NextFlix v1.0.0 brings the full IPTV experience together with a refreshed, themeable interface for LG webOS TVs.
Highlights
- Choose Electric Violet, Emerald Night, Arctic Cyan, or Signal Red. The dark charcoal app surfaces remain consistent across themes; Electric Violet is the default.
- Refresh the NextFlix wordmark and sidebar with matching custom line icons.
- Keep Search inside Movies, Series, and Live TV instead of opening a separate Search destination.
- Start from cached IPTV catalogs while provider refreshes run in the background.
- Cache TMDB title details and selected Home playlists locally to reduce repeat requests.
- Show available channel or title artwork faintly behind playback errors.
- Package the launcher icon with the Electric Violet mark on the shared dark background.
The LG webOS launcher icon is packaged with the app and does not change when an in-app theme is selected. Violet is the app's default theme and packaged icon accent.
Installation
Update NextFlix through the configured Homebrew repository using the same app ID. Keep the existing installation to preserve saved credentials and local profile data.
The release IPK is built without local test-provider credentials. IPTV playback, provider-dependent metadata, external subtitle availability, and some stream formats still depend on the user's provider and the TV decoder. Follow RELEASE-CHECKLIST.md to verify on the target television.
NextFlix v0.6.6 — TMDB metadata
NextFlix v0.6.6
- Replaced OMDb movie and series metadata with TMDB search and detail lookups.
- Added TMDB API key or read access token entry in Settings; credentials are stored locally and are not embedded in the package.
- Added TMDB branding and required attribution in Settings.
- OpenSubtitles integration remains available with its own user-provided API key.
A TMDB key is required for metadata lookups. Playback and provider catalog loading do not depend on it.
NextFlix v0.6.5 — TV focus and scroll arrows
NextFlix v0.6.5
- Replaced scroll cue glyphs with CSS-drawn directional arrows for TV font compatibility.
- Added scroll-container padding and card scroll margins so focus rings remain visible along every grid edge.
- Subtitle controls are reachable with predictable left/right remote navigation.
- Player overlays hide after five seconds during playback; leaving the subtitle menu closes it and resumes the timer.
- HTML/WebVTT subtitle cues are positioned slightly higher.
Verify arrow appearance, focus visibility, subtitle-menu navigation, and native subtitle placement on the target TV.
NextFlix v0.6.4 — TV scroll arrow fix
NextFlix v0.6.4
- Replaced scroll cue glyphs with CSS-drawn directional arrows so their appearance does not depend on the TV's installed symbol fonts.
- Subtitle controls are reachable using predictable left/right remote navigation.
- Player title and control overlays hide after five seconds while playback is running and return on remote input.
- Leaving the subtitle menu closes it and resumes the player control hide timer.
- HTML/WebVTT subtitle cues are positioned slightly higher on screen.
Native webOS subtitle rendering may not expose cue position control. Verify scrolling arrows, menu navigation, and subtitle placement on the target TV.
NextFlix v0.6.3 — Player subtitle improvements
NextFlix v0.6.3
- Subtitle controls are reachable using predictable left/right remote navigation.
- Player title and control overlays hide after five seconds while playback is running and return on remote input.
- Leaving the subtitle menu closes it and resumes the player control hide timer.
- HTML/WebVTT subtitle cues are positioned slightly higher on screen.
Native webOS subtitle rendering may not expose cue position control. Verify menu navigation and subtitle placement with your TV and stream formats.
NextFlix v0.6.2 — OMDb metadata and navigation fixes
NextFlix v0.6.2
- Replaced TMDB metadata lookup with optional OMDb metadata; enter your own OMDb key in Settings.
- Improved directional key handling and scroll cues, and tightened search field sizing.
- Removed EPG/XMLTV and catch-up code to reduce background work and improve responsiveness.
- Kept OpenSubtitles account configuration and playback controls.
- Improved the OMDb message shown when an API key is rejected. A 401/403 means OMDb did not accept the key; verify it is copied correctly and activated through OMDb's email.
The package contains no provider credentials or API keys. IPTV playback and OMDb access should be tested on the target TV after installation.
NextFlix v0.6.1 — Metadata and subtitles
NextFlix v0.6.1
Included
- Optional TMDB metadata enrichment for confidently matched movie and series details.
- Optional OpenSubtitles.com search and external subtitle playback for VOD when the stream has no selectable subtitles.
- API keys are entered by the user and stored locally on the TV; neither service is required to use NextFlix.
- The Homebrew catalog now points to the current installable package.
Notes
- External subtitle availability depends on the provider stream, title matching, API access, and webOS media support.
- Test the update on the target LG TV before relying on new metadata or subtitle behavior.
